That's the whole problem sir.

Since we're leaving it upto individuals (or in India's case state govt.s), every govt is taking things in their own hands and pushing their agenda for vote bank.

A govt calls indigenious religion as dengue, malaria....how it will show respect to indigenious language ? So what language an outsider will use, English ? But folks are resisting to English as well only coz in their minds their language is best. Slowly, outsiders will resist going there. It will open another can of issues there.

I have seen employees who will use polished English in front of the white managers and lick their boots (not literally :cantstop:) but won't talk to their Indian counterparts from other state in English properly (even though they live in a different state).

People won't amalgmate naturally, you're in US so you might know it already. They only do it when need arises. Else, everyone is happy in their own bubble abusing others.

There are multiple issues but at the end of the day, people have to make their own choice (here we are talking about language).

You may have an issue with English, someone could have an issue with Hindi, and someone with some other language.

A link (or a 2nd language) language has to rise automatically on its own. Where people naturally gravitate towards it (for that it has to be useful not just in India). People are being Indian by speaking in their regional Indian language.

If France, Germany, and Italy become one nation, all the three languages will remain important. It is unlikely to see a scenario where a German says Italians need to know German so I can communicate with them easily when I am in Italy or vice versa. If there is a need for a link language, it will likely neither be German nor Italian as people from both areas would need to work equally for commonality.

In India, each state is like a country, many with their own culture and identity. That has to be respected. As more Indians travel esp. internationally, they will also learn to communicate in a variety of ways.

Apply that context to the rickshaw driver?

Cause and effect. We don’t really know what led up to him slapping her. But underlying tensions from Hindi imposition have played a role as well.

Listen fro it the auto driver himself. He told the girls that he’s waiting at their location. They said they will come down. He saw them down going to another auto while canceling him. He found out it was them as he confronted them. They said they are well within their rights to cancel and threatened to call the police.  All he wanted was compensation for his wait of 10-15 mins.  He said that they should have cancelled earlier. They did it after telling him to wait. These anutodrivers  are out on street and can get frustrated as they see a lot of competition and the sweltering heat. That’s when he lost his cool and snapped. The girls could have just said sorry and diffused the whole situation. He spent a day and night in jail and the auto Union paid for his bail (35k). The police still have his auto. These stupid girls booked 2/3 autos and canceled one after all arrive. I would have slapped them if they acted all high and mighty not realizing the cost involved in their callous attitude . Felt sorry for him that he said he’s wrong to have abused her and learnt a lesson in that he should be patient. Now tell me if you still feel sorry for her if she was your family.

The rickshaw driver acted unprofessionally. Approaching people rudely and scaring them is not on. Cancellations are part of the business. The taxi/rickshaw drivers cancel too without even showing up. There is no reason to slap someone esp. a lady. It is a bad and blatant behaviour.

On top of that some posters are connecting such a rude behaviour with Hindi imposition (that is what is being discussed).

PS Did the rickshaw driver behave in such a fashion because the lady spoke in Hindi? (That is the discussion).

It is not such black and white in cases of such confrontations. Yes, the auto drivers also cancel after picking. But on your part you should cancel before and not after telling him to wait. That is also unprofessional and they are not accountable for their behavior. They could have just said sorry and everybody would have walked home.

First, you are going on a tangent that not many care for. The rickshaw driver was at fault period.

Second, the point of the other poster is that such a rude and blatant behaviour was because the lady spoke in Hindi (negative effects of Hindi imposition). And when I asked him how he found that out, he didn’t know. He assumed it to be a possible factor.

Do you think the driver behaved in this way because of Hindi imposition?

(And if no, why are you dragging the conversation in a pointless direction?)

There is a way to behave with a girl. Girls do not have the heavy voice or physicality of a male. I have heard the whole conversation, can't believe you are supporting the auto driver here.

I am not supporting him for his actions. He’s not well educated. Not supporting him. But even though they appear weak in that video , their actions has caused the confrontations. Well educated people are expected to act responsibly. He has learnt a lesson by spending a night in jail. So what are you complaining about? It’s the girls whose silly action triggered the fight are not accountable.

Nope. People understand that communications go through an app. You cannot approach a customer directly once it is cancelled. Any dispute need to get settled through the app. Even from a customer service POV, such behaviour is a no-go.

The moment he unnecessarily approached the ladies (after they cancelled it), he was on the wrong. Cancellations are a part of the business.

Once in Mexico, an Uber driver purposely took long routes. I simply informed Uber, which calculated the straight forward route, and refunded the extra money that I had paid back. Similarly, the drivers can ask the app company for reimbursement or request to incorporate a policy of min payment if cancelled beyond a certain time frame (similarly reimbursement for clients if drivers cancel after making the client wait for a long time or even show up late).

For slapping a girl, a night is too less in my view.

He was not booked for slapping. He snatched the phone that’s all as she was recording and it looked like slapping. He’s booked for abusing her in a very bad manner using bad language

I heard her accept her mistake for cancelling the ride. But the guy was so violent she couldn't say anything different than she did. Before any conversation, he has to lower his voice.

If you are justifying his actions in any way, you have to imagine your wife, mom , sister, daughter in the same situation.

It’s not a one-size fits all rule. Humans are involved. Sometimes when I cancel late, I have to pay penalties. Hopefully, it has done the same here. His grouse is that they said they are coming down, made him wait for 10 mins and then cancelled in front of him. In India, with uneducated drivers it is tough to expect such high end ultra pro max grade  professionalism. People piss on walls that say “yahan pishab karna mana hain”

She was not apologetic , she threatened to call the police and he said ok let’s go to the police and settle it there. I will tell my family to not deal with such uneducated guys who abuse. He was visibly angry for their actions. First up I will advise my family to not tell him to wait and then cancel. Stupid to even cancel in front of him walking away. It’s harmful for them in turn of their actions.

It’s silly to have every argument to say imagine what happens if it was your family! Some have to be from a neutral pov. You can’t tell a judge to put his family in line before every case. Judicial system will not work that way.

There are procedures to follow. Training needs to be given before these guys can drive taxis/rickshows.

Attacking women is a strict no-go no matter in what part of the world you live.

Yes and that’s why he spent a day in jail. Correction happened in the end

Seems like you are watching a different vid...he started by saying 'galti se kya?' galti means mistake. Before the video recording, the girl seems to have told him 'galti se ride book/cancel ho gaya' ....And look at his tone

The girl did fine here. Did well to have the presence of mind to record also. You are in a small minority. Listen to it again and imagine your dear ones in place of this girl to maybe change your opinion.
