Wish they make a deep run here, historically our women haven't been successful like the men but hopefully this is the beginning of a a new era under Rani Rampal and Sjoerd Marjine. Even a place in QF will be more than what we can expect considering our ranking and ability. Go Team India Huge huge year for Indian hockey. Women make a re entry to WC stage as Asian Champions after missing out in 2014. Men's Hockey WC in Nov-Dec in Bhubaneswar which I hope to attend . Gollum Posted July 31, 2018 Author Posted July 31, 2018 The format in hockey WC is slightly different compared to other sports, only 1 team from each pool qualifies directly to QF...our pool's topper is Ireland which has booked its spot in last 8. USA is out because of GD...same points as India however. India and England will have to play a pre QF equivalent match-> England vs South Korea and India vs Italy. POOL RESULTS Our half is way way easier. Both Italy and Ireland are beatable and only Germany is a higher ranked team. Top 5 ranked teams all have landed on the other half. Our path is easy on paper but we are not playing well, we may not capitalize on this slice of luck . UrmiSinhaRay and beetle 1 1
Gollum Posted July 31, 2018 Author Posted July 31, 2018 (edited) We beat Italy 3-0, final 8 for the 1st time since 1978 !!!! so so exciting......Indian sports will very soon reach a new high, I feel we are ready to up our level, so many positive developments across all sports.
