How to get Root out?

12 fifties in a row. This is becoming a problem. His style of batting perfectly suits against Indian bowling. He just hangs on the backfoot. Our bowlers hardly bowl anything full. Everyone bowls back of a length. on this pitch, he can hang back and negotiate Ashwin as well. Unless and Until India bring him out of his comfort zone our bowlers will have another long day against Root. When the batsman is stuck on backfoot you can increase leg before chances.

fast full from Umesh - with no bumrah odds of getting it right is low and with Umesh new fast medium version it looks impossible.

Umesh was bowling at 131 kph in his second over. That is not going to cut it.

Bowls nice and accurate at good pace. Any deviation and root hanging in backfoot will be plumb

 

But team management and low knowledge posters wanted pandya instead 

You are not far off. Although he handled Kuldeep better than others Root  got out 5 times to Jadeja out of 10 times in Tests. Starc got him 5 out of 12 times, Boult got him 5 out of 9 times. Southee 5 out of 9 times, Harris 5 out of 8 times. One common thing is they all tend to bowl full and straight.

Root is a bit like Laxman. Hang back and play. A reason why Laxman had some issues against really full balls.
