Listen when it gets to tests. Captain is only good as it's team. No point blaming Dhoni or Kohli. The teams they have just isn't good enough to win in SENA. Simple as that... Can't be lucky like Gangu bhai to have peak players like i mentioned above. 

Everyone would agree that team matters. But the way Indian cricket is structured for some time, captains basically pick the teams themselves and selectors are as good as wax idols of museums in front of them. We see that in Kohli's tenure and saw that in Dhoni's time too. So they hold a good part of the blame.

Azhar and his filter is wrong for ganguly. He won just 2 out of 12 in SENA.

Dhoni and Kohli are special. That's why selectors listen to then. They get what they want. 

 

 What's wrong with the present team ? You can't ask him to try out newbies like Shaw and pant in overseas. Those kind of jokes are only good on ICF.

For the record, Dada & Jammy were tried out overseas. Lets not debate everything from scratch though.

He had 2-3 years to prepare for the overseas tours. It's not like they dropped him in the middle of a tough series. Kohli should be ashamed of himself. 

Almost 4 years. He got test captaincy in Dec 2014

Dada debut in 90s where India hasn't won single test match for almost 10 yrs in SENA. We won a Test IN RSA few months back.

 

10 years vs few months. Big difference mate
