I think the game is showing us where we need Pandya.

One thing his supporters need to concede is that he's not good enough for a number 6 he can be a 7 or 8.

If only Jadeja's batting was as good his domestic stats indicate we could've hit the combination that can close out games overseas

We knw at this point he is not but with time he will become

once we have ashwin n Bhuvi it wnt look bad and soon pant will find his feet , but top order has to score its their responsibility 1st

One of the better solutions for us is if Pant becomes a good No.6 averaging 40+.  

 

Pandya can be a good No.7 then  + 4th pacer.

What we have to remember is that these guys - Pandya and Pant are in their first test season and adjusting to the learning curve. Most of their games have been overseas esp. in SENA, which is not a happy hunting ground for Ind

I agree to a certain extent. But pandya needs to be told his role . He is not the fourth bowler nor is he able to shepherd tail. I have more confidence in ashwin jadeja or bhuvi to do this.

 

Pandya needs to become either a better bowler or better batsman. He needs to work on it. His batting is too loose and for a fifth bowler he is very good .

 

If we had six solid batsman we could afford pandya. Sadly we dont have that quality so pandya does not fit in..

We can swap pandy n pant according to the need of the situation, we can play pandya at 6 if we need quick 20 ball 40-50.

He is the 5th bowler n 4th seamer 

No one here has said he is the 4th bowler

thats where pant batting abilty will come in handy and till then we have bhuvi n ashwin for cushion to 

but we need to show patience with pandya n pant they are very new and yes they need to perform as well 

When u have such young players seniors like vijay, pujara, rahane need to step up their game unfortunately this time only kohli did .

The minute specialist batsman start doing their job , pant n pandya wnt hurt us infact they ll scare opposition coz their batting style is such that they can take the game away in a session . Yes the problem comes when their is a collapse and thats where these guys need to grow to fast which is easier said then done .Ashwin also needs to take more responsibility with bat now , he cant be to casual. 

Indian team also needs to carry shankar as pandya is still RAW and shankar can be an option who comes across as better batsman this time

 

We need to be smart with team selection n have right options, no point taking 3 spinners in SENA countries

In a 5 test long series, where the key pace bowlers are not being rotated and where our batsmen don't play long enough to give them enough break b/w the innings, the team management rests / drops Pandya while persisting with struggling good-on-paper specialists (may not be considered anymore) 

 

If we get bowled out tomorrow, Bumrah (also scheduled to play in Asia Cup), Ishant and Shami would have bowled on all 3 days so far (and could continue to bowl on the 4th day) in the "5th" test. Ridiculous workload
