The thing here is fitness and hand to eye coordination -> which i feel cricketers seem to loose around 36-37 some earlier.

this, i think Dhoni has aged. He might still be fit etc but i think his batting reflexes have slowed.

At the end of he day the ideal age and time is till when the selectors/captain want him..sehwag lost out because dhoni kicked him out

There is no such thing as ideal age.Each body is different.Also lot depend on country for which you are playing.If thete is constant push from younger generation then you have to retire early.But if you are in country where there is hardly any of your replacement then you can extend your career as much you like.
