England have won twice in RSA in the last 15 years, once each in Aus/India/SL/NZ, a time frame in which they haven't won a single test series in WI. Hope select ICFers don't give gyaan that WI is the final frontier in this era. Or worse still some may believe that since Bangladesh won there a few years back, Toygers>>>Poms.........

For starters, England always get shellacked down under. That 2010 series was an exception with oldies in Aussie side and perhaps the greatest English side this millenium with Cook in Bradmanesque form. Also, the series they played in WI that year was no way in same intensity as that Ashes. England wanted to win in Australia so much so that it became an obsession. 

 

Soon after order got restored ad England has a record of 0-9 in Australia since .

4) Partially Pujara.

 

once those top 2 are replaced by something better and Pujara’s clicked in SENA like India we saw the outcome.

 

To win in SENA we need openers to put 50 or 100 run partnership and make 300+ in an innings consistently to win.

Hope OP got the answer. Different format but the problems persist, playing conventional swing has become our biggest nightmare for a decade now.

In all fairness, to the test team, this was hardly hooping around like we've seen in England last year or NZ 2002-03 but our middle order made the collapse worse than it could've been. There was no middle order to speak of & even with Kohli the results would not be much different.

To answer the OP

Your batsmen ( apart from Kohli ) choked , lacked preparation, heart and guts most of the time . .They either don't know or forgot what test match batting is all about . 

India thinks one does all in all 3 formats , only very special players can play all formats to a high standard that deserves their place in each team. 

The bowlers had chances to finish England off at crucial stages but they choked as well .

India had the chances to not just win the series but win convincently but they blew it against a very poor England team
