Praveen Kumar - Just love his attitude

Recommended Posts

lot of regular ICferz have called him trundler i have noticed.. just because he can't reach 140 k... i mean who carez about 140 k when u can swing it both wayz like that consistently.. guy is bowling his heart out.. letz respect and support.. its not that kumble is a genuine turner of the ball.. he doesn't spin like warney.. he has his art.. here Kumar has his own class.. his own art.. letz respect the young man.. GO KUMAR

People also called McGrath a slow medium trundler when he didn't clock 140 KMH. Praveen swings the ball both ways, and has one hell of a brain when bowling's concerned. Phenomenal wrist action, ability to mix it up well and outthink batsmen. And best of all, he's not one of those who can turn it on against soft targets and then wilts against the hardest opposition. He won a must-win game vs. Sri Lanka, then produced in two big finals vs. the best team in the world in their backyard. This isn't some friendly conditions bully. He has his limitations, but he realizes them and if he can be used with that in mind, he'll be very good for ODIs.

Praveen Kumar - Just love his attitude Not in a gay way, obviously but the way he bustles in on the field is so different from his off field demeanor. Everyone was literally pushing him to get the Man of the Match award today and even though Dhoni escorted him to the podium in case of a brief interview, he quickly grabbed his check and rushed back. Harbhajan was goading him to go back out there. Got to love such simplicity from the guy. I don't think it's just the fact that he doesn't know a lot of English, there have been plenty of cricketers who have made a fool out of themselves not knowing English - nothing wrong in that, he avoids limelight like plague even though he knows Dhoni will be there as his interpreter. A very likeable person in this era of sledging and mind games!:two_thumbs_up:

Praveen succeeds by keeping it simple Earlier this year, Manoj Prabhakar, the former Indian swing bowler, called Praveen a "magician" after his heroic effort in the Ranji Trophy final, when he picked up eight wickets in Delhi's first innings. Prabhakar's only suggestion was for Praveen to add genuine pace to his swing. Praveen was once a 125kph bowler, today he is in the 130-135 kph bracket and that has already made a marked difference.

None of this has come easy for Praveen, who has had to transform himself from just another domestic bully into an international player of impact. He plays his domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh where, in the absence of a good coach, he has relied on the likes of Mohammad Kaif, his state captain. more...

I liked that way he walks down the pitch after he gets a bowled dismissal. Without looking back or running like a maniac. He will be like "Oh' date=' I knew I could get him, what's the BFD!".[/quote'] O yeah! he keeps his cool kool after taking a wkt.

Meerut celebrates Praveen's feat

In Tuesday's finals between India and Australia, the man of the match was the young man from Meerut Praveen Kumar who took four wickets, and without him team India may not have done it. The unknown pushed into instant stardom, as team India celebrated one of its biggest victories, Praveen Kumar was the unlikely hero. The medium pacer turned around a match that could have gone either way. Stunning wickets that earned 21-year-old Praveen the man of the match title and high praise from the rivals. "Praveen Kumar came good in the last couple of games," said Ricky Ponting, captain, Australia. Celebrations in Brisbane, matched the joy back in Praveen's hometown Meerut, where he is the odd one out in a family of wrestlers. "It has always happened that whenever I watch TV, Praveen does not take wickets. So, I stood outside while the match was on," said Praveen's brother. Praveen refused to become a wrestler and started his cricket career in the Uttar Pradesh under-19 team with RP Singh and Suresh Raina. He debuted on the international pitch only last year in the final match of the ODI series against Pakistan. In 25 first class matches Praveen has claimed 126 wickets at an average of 21.50. He also has 945 runs to his credit. Now he has earned his place in the sun, with the likes of Sachin and Dhoni. http://www.cricketndtv.com/convergence/ndtvcricket/cricketstory.aspx?id=SPOEN20080043082

He is the UTILITY player that is becoming increasingly important in international cricket. Like Hopes for Australia. I didn't have high hopes for him and even in the 1st finals, I held the view that the wickets were gifted to him. But of course, there is more to him than that. I can see it now. I wish to see him perform in a lot less friendly conditions and see how he holds up. Egg on my face for thinking he is a slightly better version of Joginder Sharma. :hatsoff:
