Pitches, morning games, and drama (WC19)

ICC may have messed it up to a certain extent. 

 

• Pitches: It was expected that the games would produce 300+ scores in general but many of the games have been low scoring ones. I like gritty cricket and that is why Tests is my preferred format. In LOIs, I want to see constant action. A 100/5 type of conditions dulls a game even more relatively speaking in ODIs. A happy medium probably is a 280 pitch where you have to both bat and bowl well 
• Morning games: I guess to account for viewership around the world, most of the games start in the morning. D/N probably takes the conditions out of the equation relatively more in Eng. The best game (or one of the best) was NZ-WI, which was a D/N and produced a good all-around performance

 

As for drama, there has been plenty. Knock out games start in the morning as well so at Old Trafford and Lords, teams may want to bat first. Edgbaston can be tricky where teams would need to decide based on conditions if it wants the other team in a 100/5 kind of situation or bat first to put scorecard pressure on the other team. If drama is to reach its fever pitch, we might see an unfancied champion or a team bouncing back hard

Gayle fans have something to rejoice. The aged (in terms of sports) star was expected to retire post the WC. However, he is likely to play the series (both Tests and LOIs) against Ind. Gayle is still one of the best batsmen in the Carribean so it is a welcome move 

 

If WI beats Ind, the LOI series will have an interesting built up. The test series is now a part of World Test Championship so it will create excitement!

According to an article i read on cricinfo the pitches are not ICCs fault,the historic rainfall in June has messed up pitch preparedness resulting in damp pitches.

It's due to rain. It has been one of rainiest in history June. Curators didn't get time to prepare the pitches.

2nd test is in Kingston, Jamaica. He might retire there.

Yeah, its Labor Day weekend in states, I am thinking of traveling to the game.
