Pitches for the WC's latter half

Pitches have been assisting the tweakers considerably. A target of 250-275 seems defendable. 

Another attendant aspect these pitches bring is the toss. Batting first will be a great advantage in the knockouts.

At Old Trafford and Lords, bat first. At Edgbaston, you could be reduced to 100/5 so evaluate the conditions before you decide

I would say bat first in all venues. All teams can succumb under pressure of a chase.

What happened to the pitches? Before the world cup everyone was saying pitches would be a batting paradise with 350-400 being scored often as the new 300-350 and even 450-500 record might be broken etc. But as it turns out even 250 is tough to chase and almost impossible to chase anything more than 250, in fact only Ban have managed to chase more than 250 in the tournament I think. The pitches in the last WC in Australia and NZ were more flat with 300-400 being scored often.

Weather impacted pitch preparations. Eng team shared a similar point on pitches not playing out as expected. As the tourney progresses and with so many gamesome, there could be wear and tear as well

If you are confident enough to put a fighting total in difficult conditions. Teams would assess the conditions at Edgbaston as if Ind is 80/5 (except Kohli no one else is good enough to counter swing as we saw in NZ), it can get bundled out for less than 200, alleviating the scoreboard pressure for the chasing team

 

Conditions and form should be the key factors. We saw what happened to Pak in 99 and NZ in 15, while SL and Ind benefitted from dew in 96 and 11 respectively

Rain hampered preparation of the pitches.
