Quite a dramatic villian. ---------------------------------------------------------- Tamil actor Raghuvaran passes away Veteran actor Raghuvaran passed away in a hospital in Chennai on Wednesday morning following a brief illness. Raghuvaran, 60, is survived by his ex-wife and son. He was admitted to a private hospital following an ailment about a week back. His funeral will be held this evening, family sources said. Raghuvaran was married to actress Rohini. However, their marriage was a short lived one and ended in divorce. He acted in more than 80 films in Tamil and Malayalam and had bagged many awards, including the Tamil Nadu government's 'Kalaimamani' award and best character artiste award. He had acted with all top actors, including superstar Rajnikanth [images] and Kamal Hassan [images]. The actor had carved a niche for himself with his special style and voice modulation.
Lurker Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Yeah loved him in Shiva. Menacing he was. I havent seen much of him but he always came across as a very intense character, someone who could speak volumes by his body language and didnt have to resort to chilling dialogues to put forth his point.

Raghuvaran started his career as a character artiste and slowly morphed into a top-notch villain. Some of the BIGGEST hits in the Tamil Industry, like Rajnikanth's 'Basha' and Shankar's 'Mudhalvan' had Raghuvaran starring in 'em as villain. Raghuvran was not like the normal run-of-the-mill villain who spoke in a breaking voice, laughed hysterically and sported menacing looks. He was a very suave actor and had a very unique, mellow dialog delivery style. As Lurks had pointed out, he had a terrific on-screen presence. R.I.P

I remember him way back in the 1980s ( he was a friend of someone I knew ) when he used to be calling himself Amitabh Bacchan of South India and all his friends used to make fun of him, even then he would be saying " see fellows, I would act in many movies", this was when he was just in Film institute and doing minor roles. Later he did become a very good actor , even though his only similarity to AB was height. I did like him a lot, and had seen many movies of his ( btw, what is this Siva ? Hindi ? ) Raghuvaran also had many personal problems, he was into weed even in the 1980s I remember. Later I had heard he had problems of drugs and alcohol , from those who knew him. But he came out very well, and in fact acted in a movie called " Oru manidhanin kadhai" ( one man's story) , the story of a struggling and recovering alcoholic, which many ppl called his own story. He was married, and his wife left him later. He was much attached to his little boy. In later years he had turned spiritual and started following Sathya Sai Baba ( believing ssb of course, but that does not take away anything from Raghuvaran's sincere beliefs, irrespective of what ssb may be) I remember his controlled role in Anjali and other understated but powerful villain interprtations. Good man, good actor.
