Laaloo
Gambhir should have come in for Jaffer' date=' Yuvi , Dada or Laxy. Take your pick as far as I am concerned. All I know is he should be in side for both current performances and for the future. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: u sure ure not a troll?? Link to comment

King Tendulkar
eh if you want me to bump the thread saying gambhir should play for india and you lot were slaughtering him and saying he was rubbish. I will do that by all means. I will do that with much joy:D I will also have great joy in bumping this thread when he scores runs a plenty in tests. So post carefully and choose your words with care. Some may even want to consider editing theirs to save future humiliation, just a suggestion! Link to comment

King Tendulkar
And we will also have great joy to bump this thread when laxy or Dada humiliate SA bowlers ... I agree they will also score runs. But so would gambhir! It would be ideal time to blood him as he is the future and in red hot form. He is 26 in his prime is good fielder and runner btwn wickets. At some point need to change and bring in a younger player. He is also far better then Jaffer and Yuvi for tests! And can at least replace them for the squad Link to comment

But to suggest that Gambhir is better than laxman or Gangs in test cricket by indirectly implying that they be dropped to accommodate him is ridiculous to say the least. Link to comment
King Tendulkar
I would drop dada! He is the oldest batter in the team and the least best as well. Also poor fielder and poor runner in his prime, let alone now. We need to plan with some eye on the future. And phase the elders out gradually. If they go all at the same time, with no players phased in, then we will be buggered. He is the oldest and the least best, so dada goes. So yes I would drop dada whether that means gambhir or not! You may think its ridiculous but dada goes IMO. The selctors have seen this problemn in odis and axed them all apart from Sachin. Its about time future planning to some extent is done for tests as well. Also you want jaffer cos he will do well at home. What about when we go abroad? He has to go! Link to comment

beetle
Why is doing well at home not important? Jaffer is good for home....if he can give us good starts, then it is worth having in the team.So what if he does well mostly at home. This is a home series. What is this nonsense of always being in the "preparing " mode. Sometimes it is "preparing for future" and sometimes for "phoren tours".Why is it not important to have the best for the present tour. As for dropping dada for gambhir......:bird: Link to comment

Gambhir should have come in place of Ganguly. But selectors might be scared of the sentimens in West Bengal. Link to comment
CC1981
DSR, have you lost your sense of reasoning completely or is this some attempt at nepotism ? WTF has Gambhir done in Tests/First Class cricket to deserve selection in the test team ? You say he is in red-hot form. I say tis true, but thats in ODI cricket. I don't care if Gambhir scores a century every 3 innings in ODIs- that has ZERO relevance to test cricket and ODI form is NOT a benchmark for test selection or vice-versa! As for pushing dada out, Dada has been excellent in tests in the recent years- he's had a medeocre tour of Australia but apart from that, he has made runs against all teams in recent times. Oh and dada is 35- which isnt that old for TEST team for a specialist batsman. AFAIAC, Gambhir has done ZILCH to be selected in the test team. Let him score a few tons, play a few pivotal innings in FC cricket and then we can talk about his selection to the TEST squad. Till then, Gambhir is rightly out of the TEST team. Link to comment

Care to list against whom, where and what is his FC contribution over the last few years ? Besides, i really don't value the opinions of those who think Gambhir should replace dada in the test squad. Those who think that a specialist opener can replace a bona-fide middle order /lower-middle order batsman in test cricket lack a fundamental understanding of the game as far as i am concerned. Desi Cartman
GG deserves to be in the squad over UV. UV or GG both wouldnt get a game anyway since Sehwag is back in the side anyway. Dropping SG is not a bad idea but I say lets give him another 12 months or a bad series before dropping him. GG could be a good replacement for Jaffer/Sehwag if either of them fail in couple of tests. Link to comment
Desi Cartman
and yes if u score well in a tough ODI series than it does count towards test team selection. Why wouldn't it What's a better indicator of form when it comes to test team selection : 1. Scoring @ 50 in last 10 tests against Up , HP , Delhi , Mumbai etc 2. Scoring @ 45 in last 10 international ODIs against quality opposition in tough conditions I think case 2 carries more weightage Link to comment
