Wait didnt he took Shankar for no.4 and then shankar got injured in warmup and they had to play Rahul at 4 . Rahul was taken as backup opener only. 

If rahul was meant to be number 4 why wasnt he given enough games and why was he dropped from XI after Wc when he made runs in WC .
