A way for Rohit to last till ODI WC23

Can Rohit Sharma prolong his ODI career till WC23 relatively better if he plays in the MO? (please don't talk about his MO record in the past)

  • His chances of making it to the next WC depends upon his form post 2021 and fitness
  • Opening requires one to be at his best and competitive vs. players of top teams such as Aus and Eng
  • Ind has competitive players who can open / play well in the top order
  • Rohit has a relatively poor record in MO but he is a mature player now. If his form declines as an opener, there would be calls to drop him. On the other hand, if he plays in the MO, the pressure on him will be relatively less as MO is relatively less competitive
  • Ind may benefit from his experience in the MO

With this Dhawan (unlikely to last till WC23) and KL (he could be gone too if he is not impactful enough) can open. And if/when one of them fails, can be easily replaced by one of the young batsmen. While Rohit can play relatively under less pressure in the MO. Discuss.

Indian fans are also very impatient. If the experiment fails, everyone starts shouting why experiment, bring dhoni back, and other useless things. Nice suggestion and needs to be thought about. But I doubt rohit would want to give away easy runs to someone else..

Guys like Dhawan and Rahul at their best are good for small 100s. Rahul is not even proven in that aspect.

If Rohit was 71(91) today 7/10 times he would convert that to a daddy 100 that alone would have been a 300+ target which could have been defended or atleast put some pressure on Aussies.

Rohit is a must in the opening slot. In fact if Rohit fails consistently next few months rather drop him than accommodating him in the middle order. He is a genuine xfactor opening.

In fact between overs 30-40 overs he hits a lot of 6s when he is in the zone which our middle order is not capable of.

3 things shouldn’t be tinkered with in Indian cricket right now- Rohit’s batting position, Kohli’s batting position and Bumrah’s bowling action, that still leaves us with a lot of other experimentations.
