SecondSlip Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 I think he should! Since our top 3 is booked in ODIs, Rahul should seal the #4 slot. If given consistent chances, he will shine here. There is no way he can do worse than his predecessors like Rayudu, Karthik, Rahane etc. In tests, we all have seen that his technique is not good enough at all to counter the new ball. However, since he’s a stroke maker, he can do really well in the middle order from 4-6. I think that he can shine in tests as well if he bats in the middle order!
bowl_out Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 (edited) Yes. If they are looking at him as keeper in ODIs even in the short term, he should play at 5.. He can't do a Gilchrist to keep for 50 overs and open the innings. That'll burn him out and he isn't the fittest player in the team. If Rohit is unavailable for ODIs, open with Pant and Shaw, and play Rahul at 5 Edited February 2, 2020 by bowl_out

Nothing wrong with his technique...in bad patch every one technique go for toss. Even if u see clips of dravid in bad form ull find technical flaws in it. Same guy got runs overseas with same technique while opening...u can get runs overseas while opening with poor technique. Neither in tmhis recent good form he has played away from body when most player play like that in LOI Kothili 1
Khota Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 (edited) He is comfortable opening . No need to mess with success. Edited February 2, 2020 by Khota Kothili 1
gazza Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 I think he is of such a quality that they should try to fit him into the team in every format wherever that maybe, in saying that gill and Shaw also need to be integrated into the xi’s, especially the test and ODI xi’s. thing is it’s hard to justify Rahul over gill and Shaw in tests (and others I’m sure) I think gill can play middle order, Shaw probably could as well but I feel gills game will adjust quicker.
vvvslaxman Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 KL Rahul is slowly becoming his state veteran Rahul Dravid. Doing everything he was asked to do.
vvvslaxman Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 He first has to convince us about converting the starts. He had the same issue prior to his slump in Tests. He was doing well in India and other places. Moment India started touring his slump started. He kept getting bowled. So there is some technical issue he needs to get fixed if it is still there. Also he must go on to make his starts count. Not fancy 40s in T20, Fancy 60s in ODI.
