 In fact this is a great opportunity to test  fringe players and yet have a pretty good side who can beat the opponents .

If covid is still rampant in July, i expect similar 2 per ground 4 test series in England too.

Why not 2 matches in Chennai, 3 in A'bad? Latter has 11 pitches (all prepared and ready to use in short notice) and is a huge ground, pretty sure it could have hosted 5 consecutive tests, forget 3. Our board prioritized T20s over a marquee test series. Originally this tour was supposed to have 5 tests, 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs. Now 4+5+3....2 T20Is in exchange of one test. 

 

Covid isn't a reason since the two squads are going to stay in A'bad for another 2 weeks.

perhaps the extra T20s was to get more int'l T20 experience before the WC. but since we have IPL, the whole idea seems odd.

Should never be at the expense of tests in a marquee series.

yep, I agree. I actually miss the days with 6 test series. would have been a good chance to thrash the pommies 5-1, esp if extra 2 tests were played at ahmedabad.

When does India tour NZ again? Both last two tours they have been blown away in tests against trundlers like Jamieson and DeGrandhomme.

jamieson is not trundler. he is fast-medium. grandhomme on the other hand is genuine trundler.
