How about Sanju Samson opening in the ODI series with Shikhar Dhawan?

Rohit Sharma not playing in the ODI series opens up a slot in the opening. I hope it's not Rahul because you don't want to confuse him about his position by switching him from opening to No. 5 and then back to opening when the slot is temporarily open again.

 

Talk is of Mayank opening. He has done well in IPL, batted at a good strike rate and the right-left combination with Dhawan is retained.

 

But what about Sanju Samson? Has played a few destructive knocks and is more suited for the top order. Do you think he should be given a shot?

The aim of team management is to win matches and they will do anything to make it happen. Mayank has shown stability in tests and in ipl so he comes in ahead of Sanju even if Sanju has more spark. 

We fans will be the first one to criticize the TM if Sanju is given a chance ahead of mayank and he fails. 

Sanju will get his chances in t20is.

Both of them can be good options .... List A #s are usually useful if we have not seen a player perform and want to get a general idea (much like a computer selecting a team). Once we have seen a player in acceptable details, our judgment should be based on that 

 

The more experienced players become in international cricket, the more relevant their stats esp. in key moments
