It was a manufactured problem.  The dependency on the top 3 "going big" or else India struggles with the bat was intentionally set up - by not allowing batting candidates to become regulars in the side at #4.  Because if a Manish Pandey or Shreyas Iyer becomes an established 'star', then the advertising dollars start chasing the 'new' young batsman on the rise.  So keep them off-balance, keep them in and out of the side.  Instead of grooming them, developing their game and confidence by allowing opportunities to bat in the top order in the 2 years before the WC, keep them on edge by making them bat at #6, dropping them even after a decent showing.  Bring in a past-his-prime Rayudu, and keep him off-balance too.

You are trying to tell me that India did not have viable batsmen to pick from to fix the "middle order"?  Its glaringly obvious that the 'middle order problem' existed and was kept a problem by the team management.  In fact they made it worse with their selection policies.

Here we go again.

Manish Pandey is a limited batsman and if you think he has the ability to challenge Kohli's stardom then i am not sure if you are serious.

Shreyas Iyer is yet another spin basher and many on this forum agree to that, the logic that he could challenge Kohli's stardom is foolish.

Now this is the problem with critics like you, basically zero logic and a whole lot of imaginations.

Any sane fan will laugh at you if you think Shreyas Iyer and Pandey were kep away from the team bcoz Kohli felt challenged by them. LOL :

Thoda to dimaag lagao, you think fans who follow cricket religiously can be fooled by these fantasies.

England build the team we didnt, a team is build with investing in players which kohli didnt. U cant make a team by chopping n changing.

We didnt have good fast bowlers ?? or spinners or Batsman ???

Yes we didn't have good middle order batsmen, and that still applies.

We have given chances to Shreyas Iyer, isn't he the same guy people here were projecting as some sort of messiah and that he would have won us the semifinal. This guy is an out and out spin basher.

Gull obviously wasn't ready and even today as evident by ipl he can't change gears.

So yes, we didn't have good middle order batsman.

Kohli's biggest blunder was playing thala but who had the aukaad to get him out of the team.

No sane captain will have these kind of brainfades

Jan 2018: Rahane is our no. 4 for the WC

Oct 2018: Rayudu's consistency will solve our middle order problem

Apr 2018: Vijay Shankar provides us great stability at number 4

End result: Rishabh Pant, playing as a specialist batsman, walks out to bat at 4 for India in the WC SF

Kohli is a mediocre Loi captain but we didn't have good middle order batsman at that time.

Most of them were mediocre and some were too raw.

Still he should have given a long run although that wouldn't have helped us.

Also what's ur take on kohki not selecting Iyer or Pandey because he felt challenged by them, isn't that pure BS
