The Realist Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Very unlikely. Don't have the infrastructure or resources.

And unlike the 90s, lower ranked teams don't get a lot of chances to play the top teams. Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Ireland, Zimbabwe play amongst themselves while top team play amongst themselves. No way to grow.
Norman Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Afghans lack stamina and power. I don't quite believe this "genetic physical superiority" thing but Afghans on average are the strongest ethnic group in South Asia. Just sayin..

Just sayin.. They aren't.its all a myth. They don't Excel in wrestling or weight lifting. India is always the best from Asia. On average Afghans are small and weak. I play soccer with plenty of them here in brisbane. They are tough though. That's all I can say. Tough doesn't mean strong. So no they aren't the strongest ethic group. Go to rurual India in the village side especially the farmers etc and mine workers/quarry. Those are real tough strong humans.
Soldier Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 (edited) Lol at the strongest ethnic group ROFL. Yea no. India is so diverse. Every state has certain minority caste/groups that have tons of strong well built people due to tough work ethic in the fields/farming or hard work in the mines. Afghans only advantage being the environment they live in forces them to be tough in order to survive. Phassst bowling has got nothing to do with being strong. Wrestling, weight lifting and powerlifting are the true indicators of strength especially wrestling. Edited February 4, 2021 by Soldier

Well it depends where are they actually from. Afghans are diverse as well. In my college some are Uzbek Afghans they are pretty tall & tough & some Pashtuns as well. They are quite diverse themselves. But the thing is they aren't very athletic. On the contrary guys from J&K & Himachal are more or less same height but very athletic even more than Punjabis.

Go to some of the rural areas in South and you will be surprised how strong the local Telugu and Tamil people. Especially the kabbadi playing locals and jallikattu games. The ones that play cricket are all the upper class pompous brahmins etc. Pasthuns are generally short. Not strong tbh but they are indeed tough. It's just a myth about their so called strength lol. All tough wrestlers, weight lifters come from India. Not Afghani or uzbek.

They are good in spin Condtions however. When there is more money pumped into their domestic system if they ever get one then we shall see them challenging the likes of Pak, Lanka and India. Useless if you start comparing them with the likes of top class fast bowlers. When you put things in perspective, the background, the cricketing history of the country, infrastructure, one would say they are doing pretty fine. They maybe inconsistent in bowling 140+, but they are still sharp and have the ammunition. Having bowlers bowling 140+ in the first generation of their professional set of players, I think is awesome. And even if they get hit, it is not that they stop trying. This I am commenting based on whatever little I have seen.

speedheat Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Need to improve pace bowling, polish their skills. Long way to go.

Yup, check out Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (badminton) for the big burly South Indian stereotype.
