India conceded 100-130 runs more in first inning with their mistakes

It was flat pitch and England batted really well. Put price to their wicket and scored as much as they could.

 

Indian bowlers conceded 45 runs as extra (20+ no balls).

 

Kohli wasted reviews and couldn't use it when needed.

 

Dropped catches and these mistakes ensured 100-130 runs extra.

 

Additionally England survived 40-50 overs extra also.

Ishant took 2 wickets in 2 balls yesterday.

 

2 new tailenders at the crease.

 

But Kohli continues with Sundar at the other end.

 

This was the time to go for the kill.

 

And it has happened earlier too.

 

Kohli has allowed most new batsmen to settle down by not using his best bowlers when they have come in.

 

That going for the kill attitude is totally missing from the captain.

Too many no-balls

And England's fielders converted half-chances.  This makes a huge difference not only because it is a wicket, but just in overall team morale!

 

Indian fielders, at least in the 1st innings, (I haven't watched the 2nd innings highlights yet) put down pretty much every half chance.  Heck, we even dropped one that an 8-yr old playing in Shivaji Park would've gobbled up easily.

I get the feeling that Kohli goes with pre-thought plans rather than thinking on his feet and reacting to match situations.

 

X will bowl so many overs and then Y will bowl so many overs ... so on and so forth.

 

Even today, Nadeem was not bowling well with the new ball but bowled 3 or 4 more overs even when this fact became apparent. Bumrah could have been brought on earlier.

 

It just seemed like a sticking to a pre set plan.
