Yeah that was bad, did not like this tweet at all.

coffee_rules
It all started with this article. some NGO selected her among 8000 others, not a sportsperson. Article laments she became a daily laborer. How is it states fault?

The headlines insinuates that she was a participant or part of Indian contingent, now in utter poverty. She had been chosen by UNICEF as she ran some program of some NGO. The articles includes how she was welcomed by the then CM (a photo op for them) , but she alleges there was no help from the government or UNICEF. What should the state have done for a non-sportsperson who was chosen to run with the Olympic torch? What’s the point of the article anyway? And I am still not getting how does it matter if she is non-sportsperson. It feels like you're saying that since she is not at athlete, so she doesn't deserve support from govt. She was welcomed by govt when she returned back to country. Why was she welcomed? Although she wasn't selected by the govt to be torchbearer, she represented India and non-sportsperson. Even if she didn't didn't represent the country, she deserved some help from govt. Let's say whatever govt spent on photo-op in welcoming her (few lakhs maybe?), instead of doing that, if she was given equivalent cash, she might have benefited more. And of course anyone would expect help from govt, when initial treatment is like that.

You should have read many such articles, Asian medalist in the 80s , ab pakode bech raha hai .. film char actor, ab sadak mein bheek maang raha hain..etc These are articles about the turn of fate or lost opportunities and how the society (govt, state, people) lost them. I didn’t say she doesn’t deserve the help of the state, everybody does. But to feel entitled based on some falana opportunity she got and claim nobody helped doesn’t fall in the same category as mentioned above. She or the journalist should blame that NGO that got her the opportunity, maybe got some PR with CM welcoming her, and then dropped her like a hot potato Govt didn’t choose her to represent, that NGO associated with UNESCO did , as per the quota given to various countries in the Olympic spirit. Damn NGOS only care about fame and PE and funding and nothing about people Edited August 10, 2021 by coffee_rules Trichromatic
