vvvslaxman Posted October 12, 2021 Posted October 12, 2021 When did he become a lunger? He steps well out to spinners. New guy 1
ShoonyaSifar Posted October 12, 2021 Posted October 12, 2021 The video is 17 years old. Players change with age. In Dhoni's case, it was also loss of batting reflexes, which meant he could still step out and bludgeon the ball sometime but struggled to do it consistently since 2014-15 onwards.

It is almost like i have been seeing this lunging for close to 7 or 8 years. It is almost like he is afraid of getting stumped if he comes out. You could relate with Kohli's early stage. During his 183 vs Pakistan he stepped out to Ajmal almost every ball. Nowadays he is just stuck at the crease. He is a bunny of pretty much all the leggies now.

In IPL he could still hit poor bowlers but in international cricket, no such freebies were on offer. Idealy Dhoni should have been batting no lower than 4 from 2015 onwards. By 2017 CT he was completely done as an international batsman and should have retired.
