Sharma was struggling in IPL. Dhawan was ahead of him

Team look liked it came without a plan.

At that level you need coaching to fine tune your game all the time.

Dhawan has a different skillset than Sharma , one doesn't replace the other.

IPL isn't the only criteria otherwise India would be playing Avesh Khan/ Harshal Patel/ Gaikwad in the playing 11

The onus is on the player to improve their game -  Coach is to advise you. not to teach you basics.  Player's get millions to play well - find a way

A good coach cannot bring 110 % out of every player.   Some players are not "coachable"

Not coachable sit out. Not so difficult.

Precisely.

That's why the onus is on the players.  If they cannot listen to the coaches then sit out.  It's ultimately their responsibility.

As a opener they are the same.

IPL is the best criteria to select plus experience etc.

They aren't the same.

IPL isn't the best criteria - It's just a factor

What advise can Shastri provide? That man is a leech and needs to refund his salary to BCCI.

I believe in IPL stats more than International.  But it should be the dominant criteria.

Cannot provide any advise to players who do not listen.  Select players who have their basics right and are wanting to be coached

I believe IPL should be a minor criteria.

Major. IPL stats are correct. Other cricket stats are almost meaningless.

Very Minor and can be misleading.  Should be taken with a grain of salt

Cricket stats are misleading. IPL stats are very fair.

The other way around I'd say

No. If weight is not assigned to bowling then cricket stats are misleading. IPL evens out more than Internationals.

Precisely , with weight allocation it comes out to be Minor

IPL it is the same bowlers for everyone. In international too many variables are there.

compounded by many other factors as well decreasing the weightage

I mean IPL was played very recently in UAE.

This match was in UAE.

Why should IPL not matter then in a major way? Conditions, pitches, location and event time are the same.

Dropping Dhawan was on selection committee.

Playing Pandya was on Kohli.

Playing Pandya wasn't the reason we lost. We lost because we were 3/2 in less than 3 overs and scored 39/3 in first 7 overs. We were 60 in 10 overs. Pandya barely got to play 8-10 balls.
