Why was H Pandya selected for WC ?

Tactically, sending an impact batsman ahead (rather than being formulaic with L-R combination w/o assessing the situation) can help as he can a) get his eye in, b) have a better chance of mauling the 4th-5th to gain momentum versus trying to do damage control versus death overs specialists without even getting his eye in, c) if the impact player gets out, you always have guys like Jadeja to take singles and hit an odd boundary 

 

In T20s, your 11 should not be monotonous. If it is possible, the 11 should be like a Swiss Army Knife where you have various tools for various situation 

 

If I were the captain, I would always back rare big hitters like SDP (Hardik), who main job is to change the momentum …  Similarly if someone like Shaw opens. He is there to provide explosive starts. If he gets out (likely as he is taking more risks for the team) that is ok, no big deal

I agree Pandya should have come ahead of Jadeja to smack the spinners but I still think it’s waste of a batting slot if Pandya doesn’t bowl. Sure Pandya may be more talented than Thakur or Axar but give them only 10 balls and ask them to slog they will have such golden moments too.

 

Simple, there isn’t any faith in Pandya to construct an innings or use his brains.

 

In such a scenario he doesn’t deserve a place. As simple as that.  Jadeja is useless too but at least he bowls and bats properly or at least tries to.

It didn't seem to be the reason.

Because batsman like SKY are more useful when playing at #3-4. Not many would try to bat SKY at 5. 
 

In the lower middle order (#6-7), we can see more flexibility. At CSK, Jadeja has been moved around many times. At MI, SDP, Pollard, and Krunal are moved around. No one thinks that if Krunal is sent ahead, MI had less confidence in Pollard or SDP, and if Jadeja is sent ahead, CSK has less confidence in a Rayudu, and so on. 
 

I won’t be surprised if it was MSD’s idea

If I have rare impact players available, I would always try to play them. 

SDP right now is seen as a specialist batsman and will walk into many teams as a batsman. IND’s is not even an ideal T20 team and if we remove players born to play such formats, the 11 could become even less T20ish

 

A team like Ind is probably not going to win a tournament because of Rohit, KL or Kohli (unless chasing low totals. The issue for Ind can be playing relics like Rohit-Kohli in this format), but how impact players like SDP, Pant, and SKY do

How can a player who is playing as a specialist batsman bat at no.7 in a t20?   LMAO.  Anything is possible with Loli as captain.

If they really believe Pandya is in for hitting, then you cannot hide him behind Jadeja. TM is giving confusing messages here

 

Is it because of too many cooks here? Kohli, rohit, dhoni? So you select pandya for big hitting but barely give him 8 balls at death and jadeja plays run a ball innings and wastes 3-4 overs?
