Agree, not in the truest definition.. But him being able to bowl his full quota helped us win the WC.. Don't think it would have worked out had we played a pure batsman or pure bowler instead of him

Baseball comparison is invalid. This is the baseball rule for designated hitter which means the pitcher (the specialist bowler in cricket context) is replaced by a designated hitter (a specialist batsman in cricket context) which means yes baseball you need specialist.

 

In cricket it’s not like that. If your top 6 are out, your 7-11 are expected to be able to fight it out and win/draw the game or if one of your 5 bowlers is hurt, someone to provide that luxury. It is a bonus to have something like that- yes. Is it a requirement- no.

So they use to have pitchers who could bat but that never worked out. All the pitchers have physically different characteristic trait than bats.

The specialization is more evident in NFL. Every position has different heights weights etc. 

No way you can bowl and bat. Hold your end is about all you can do

There is no need for true all rounders .. may be batsmen who can bowl a bit and bowlers who can hit should be enough.

Thakur is a bowler capable of batting a bit. He is not a (fake) all rounder. The whole concept of reserving a spot for a so called allrounder who can neither bat nor bowl well is flawed.
