Oz does not have much lateral movement, so both did well there. in SEN, they are poorer batters. only thing going for Pant is that he can improve in NZ and Eng, provided that they don't dish out only green mambas. I think SA is beyond his current skill level since there is both bounce and movement on most (not all) SA pitches. His fitness is looking suspect these days as well In OZ all our players have done well over the years as the wickets are true there. Even in England up to a point our players had very good average. Post clouderson era our average started dipping there. But in 2010 they even succumbed to Moeen Ali back to back series. In SA scoring runs is a lottery. If you are in form and you get to play on one of those good batting decks you can pile up runs. If you are out of form and even if you bat on a good batting deck you are going to fail. Sehwag had gifted reflexes. Only problem was patience. You need to give atleast one session to bowlers in SA. You don't really see that happening with Sehwag. Same Steyn was butchered by Sehwag at Chennai. Vijy 1

Real McCoy Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Sehwag batted as an opener. His debut was against SA in SA where he scored a 100 batting at 6. One must wonder what his average maybe if he was batting in the middle order. Pant has shown promises in Aus but has struggled in SEN. That's probably because while Aus gives steep bounce, if one is not scared of bouncy pitches, they are easier to bat on especially after the first hour with the kookaburra ball. SEN gives encouragement for bowlers throughout the day especially England. His career has just started so its unwise to make any comparisons with any player.
