Conditions

Pitch

Both vary across the season.

Even in India conditions can vary depending on the season especially in North India. You have to factor these variables before comparing stats regarding impact, average and strength of opponents.

Op needs to factor it in.

Unfortunately, the OP has factored in nothing ... At least have some basic structure in place - even if it just averages it is fine but to claim consistency, impact, conditions, and so on and put nothing on the table is meh

Missed this gem

So a guy who topped on certain parameters on cricinfo in 5 out of 10 years (50% of the decade), misses out for reasons unknown  :hmm:

The only gem here is counting five years period in a 10 year sample and concluding based on that.

For e.g.

1 X,

2 Y

3 Z

4. x

5. Y

6. A

7. A

8. A

9. A

10. A

A is missing

Show us your work as to why rather than making dire statements after an amateurish effort

Every single thing is taken into consideration. You cannot make any list by posting stats and methodology as ultimately they will have limitations and in several cases, it will become nothing but a useless statistic with no context. Methodologies can often be factored in such ways where people try to show what they actually want to show and not what is reality, like suggesting a Pujara over Dravid or even Laxman through some irrelevant methodology, for example.

The general consensus doesn't give a **** about stats, especially if you have read books, watched games and followed cricketing career for long time.

Again show us your work :thumb:

Per one report a player was the best for 50% of a decade, you said he wasn't based on your criteria so why not show why (what's the big deal is showing how you arrived at your list unless yours is a random list)

The job of user is to view the product and provide the observations on that. It is not their job to ask the developers to give a detailed analysis on how they developed that product.

So, if you don't like this list, you need to tell me what is wrong with this list and which names don't deserve here. You cannot ask me to show the backend logic used to come to this list. Yes, if you can show or highlight the many faults with the front end product then obviously it is a point we can discuss.

But what you are doing here is not providing observations on my list but straightaway asking for backend work behind it. If you do it with a more detailed observation, I would love to quote on that and put my reasonings for that.

I neither like or dislike the list ... I am neutral ... All I am asking is what methodology you used and the calculations (which you must have done to arrive at the list unless it is randomly created abusing statsguru)

Based on your criteria and weightage (however basic), If someone is posting such a list, he/she would have something like below:

                                                                 Player  A.    Player B    Player C Player D Player E Player F Player G ....

Consistency  (25%)                                          some data

Impact    (25%)                                                                    some data

Performance versus top teams (25%)                                                  some data

Conditions  (25%)                                          and so on

Total

Buddy, not to put you on the spot but I thought that you would have done something before posting the list, which is why I initially asked. If you have not done, that is ok.  At the end of the day, this is just a thread!!

It is the other way round here. You do not have anything to say about the list that is created which is clearly specifying that it is taking all the factors into consideration. So, all you are doing is arguing just for the sake. Nevertheless, I don't mind it as long as my threads gets enough comments to get into multiple pages.

I will repeat the same thing again. If you have something worthy to post about the OP, we can surely have a discussion or else there is no point of the discussion.

You must be aware up till now that I am not among the ones who post misleading stuffs by taking only one factor into consideration and that too as per what fits the bill. If that is all you want, then you are expecting it from a wrong person. Cheers!  :top:

So you have nothing to say on your own list

Thank you

PS good to know you keep tracks of pages of a random thread!!

Interesting list... Will comment more on it later, but IMO the greatest batter of 60s was not even Sobers or Pollock but Ken Barrington. Check out his away stats, as well as his overall record (both home/away) at no. 3
