zen Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 (edited) For the upcoming T20 world cup in Aus: #3 Hooda -> Relatively good against both bounce & spin ... can slip in an over or two of off spin #4 SKY -> Mr. 360 degrees #5 SDP (Hardik) -> India's top LOI player #6 DK -> in-form experienced finisher Is there a need for confusion/change? zen Posted July 10, 2022 Author Posted July 10, 2022 (edited) Almost feels like a 11 where players w/ finishing abilities bat from #3 onwards! Edited July 10, 2022 by zen

All fine but no decay thanks. Samson for decay

Samson for decay I am not sure if Samson would be slotted at #6-7 (the tough lower middle order), where batsmen may not have time to settle down and be relatively more consistent ... If Samson plays there and like most in those slots falls 6-7 out of 10 times, people will say get DK or whoever ... Whoever is played (DK for now) should be given a relatively long run before a major tournament ... Talking about DK, in 9 innings so far in 2022: Career averages Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s unfiltered 42 35 17 525 55 29.16 372 141.12 0 1 3 58 19 filtered 10 9 3 126 55 21.00 94 134.04 0 1 1 16 4 Has only played 94 balls, which is like 10 balls per inning on avg Has played 2-3 useful knocks, which is like clicking in 1/3rd of the completed innings Needs to look out of form to consider other options.
zen Posted July 10, 2022 Author Posted July 10, 2022 Another positive is that all 4 batsmen got their highest T20 scores in 2022. Many were helped by batting a position or two higher (or in the top order #1-3) as they have developed (and are developing) their game.

Why not bharat then?
zen Posted July 10, 2022 Author Posted July 10, 2022 Just now, Jay said: Why not bharat then? Bharat is a slow starter and usually has done well in the top order iirc (#1-3). He could not make it regularly to DC 11 ... If we have an experienced in form batsman like DK, who has developed his game for the lower middle order (#6-7), bringing smart hitting to the table, he would be preferred ... If you watched the 1st T20 versus Eng, DK utilized the field well hitting 2 boundaries where the fielder was in the circle in the final over (the bowler of course bowled to his field) ... SKY, who plays up the order, today clicked but he did not do that well in the first two games so if a lower order batsman is clicking in 1/3 games esp. considering completed inning, that is a positive.

Just not convinced with dk hey. Always failed under pressure and he is nearing 40. Would prefer other options like even samson even though he hasn't played at 6 or 7.

Difficult to be “convinced” with almost anyone playing in the lower middle order (#6-7) … Many fans tend to gauge them like top order (#1-3) batsmen, which does not work and waste their time criticizing almost anyone in that role! Age is not an issue as we are only discussing the upcoming WC where current form is the key PS one alternative is Pant if he is batting well too but he is unlikely to bat in the lower middle order (#6-7), breaking a potentially optimal batting order Edited July 11, 2022 by zen

Guess we really have no other options hey? Wonder If patidar rinku singh or tilak verma could be tried.

There are guys like Tewatia as well. Currently, an alternative is Pant if he is batting well too but he is unlikely to bat in the lower middle order (#6-7), breaking a potentially optimal batting order where you have a big hitter in Hooda, followed by a 360 degrees player SKY, followed by big hitter SDP, who is followed by another 360 degrees player DK … DK could swap position with #7 depending on who is slotted at there. I do like tewatia. He is clutch and mentally strong. Too late to add him to the mix now. Next wc for sure. zen 1

Jadeja at 6 and DK 7. Deepak Chahar won't make it not sure where he is. Axar is worse than Jadeja.
tweaker Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 The lineup could be 3 Hooda 4 Surya 5 pant 6 pandya The team should have 1 wicketkeeper in Pant. The team management should consider other option than.Axar and Jadeja ie Tewatia The team should have a player who can bowl a over or two when the main bowlers are carted around ie Venky Iyer The team can figure out why to play Axar or Jadeja with Chahal, they can play both Bishoi and Chahal express bowling 1

Tewatia was in squad for a series but he was not consider after that.He should have been selected instead of Axar.He would have done better if he had got an opportunity. Pant should bat at no 5 position between Surya and Pandya.
Majestic Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 Pandya at 5 is better than Pandya at 6. Jadeja at 6 is better than Jadeja at 7. DK is a finisher at 7 and I don't think any of the above two are good for that. This is why I would be uncertain on including Pant at 5 and pushing Pandya and Jadeja one lower.
Vijy Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 not sold on karthik at 6 or 7, but perhaps we don't have better choices.

Pant can come in if batting extremely well, otherwise it pushes down a couple of in-form impactful batsmen, and makes Hooda the 6th bowler. With 360 degrees batsmen in the line up, Ind does not even need to worry about left-right combination (though I believe that first a batsman should make it to the 11, and then worry about such combinations.)
