Since when Sanju samson is an answer. No need for guys like Sanju samson who perform once in 20 matches in any format.

In his last T20 he had a 77  score ,yet he is not in the squad.

He has hardly played 14 T20 and one odi match.where he has scored 45 runs.

He was in the squad because main players were not there. Now that main players are back, he is not there. What is so great about him that warrants him a place. Is he young, does he have an extraordinary SR, is he a finisher, what does he bring to the table.

Shreyas Iyer has higher SR than him and he can play all formats. Why are we dropping him for this guy as Ganesh  wanted?Iyer has his issues with short pitch bowling but I would take chances on him than this once in blue moon performer.

do you know why he has a higher SR? It's because the bulk of his knocks came in SC, and his best series was against a very weak SL. Also wrt "all formats", this thread (as seen from title) is about T20s.

Sanju is probably not the answer, but neither is Iyer in Aus. Every team will immediately bowl short. he will end up tuk-tuking and getting out.

Do you know how many  odis 100 Sachin scored against Australia in Australia. How many matches it took him to do that. What is your point.

Yes they will bounce Iyer when he plays in SENA so what, I would give chances to him to work on his issues knowing he will be alright in SC. I cannot know for sure Samson will be not alright even in SC.

SRT was not mentally strong, and that's probably why he took a while to score his only 100. he did score quite a few 50s. his issue was not one of technique because he did well enough in tests.

S. Iyer, on the other hand, has glaring technical issues that will not get fixed in the short term. we do not have the luxury of treating WT20 as a "learning curve" for him by playing him in these conditions without exposing him previously to them. better to select players who have a relatively better chance of handling bounce.

with Hooda, SKY, Rahul, we have three potential players in MO who can score at a good SR and do not demonstrate bounce issues to the same degree as Iyer; this trio do have some issues wrt bounce, but not as glaringly as Iyer does. all 3 have done relatively well in T20Is.

Note that I am sticking to WT20 in Aus. When it comes to ODI WC in India, I think Iyer has a more genuine case to play

There are many players with short ball weakness who have done well in Australia. If we find someone better we can always replace Iyer. We need to give him time to work thru his issues.

Arguing between Iyer and Samson for T20 World Cup is like having a debate on who should be going to WrestleMania between Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater. It is a pointless time wasting discussion.

Lol. In the end, I doubt that either iyer or samson will play. setting aside all the blah blah about reader "dream XIs", this is the most likely top 7 we will see (not commenting on whether it's "best" or not):

Rohit

KL

Kohli

SKY

Pant

Hardik

Jaddu

Iyer is getting his chances now, if he cannot cement his spot in the team for next world cup then it is on him.If he keeps scoring runs no one can drop him.

Quite obvious. Much like the bowling wherein you have Bhuvi, Bumrah and Chahal. Only one spot is questionable.

yes, even in batting, the Pant slot is the only one arguably not fully locked in as per TM's statements. Let me reiterate that this is what I predict the TM's thinking is like (not my personal top 7).

The Windies series is important for players like Kuldeep, DK, Pant, Hooda, Harshal and Arshdeep.

I just hope they don't start with Iyer instead of Hooda in the XI. It is possible that they start with Iyer over Hooda due to experience factor and also I think there is that one slot between the two which is open for a 18 man squad(not even for 15 man).

Hooda should get that simply due to offspin option he gives.

On current form also Hooda should get that. But management might have some other plans, they may continue with Iyer over Hooda and look to stick with him in hope that he improves. Pandya and Jadeja will anyways fill the bowling quota.

yeah Hooda is batting better. I'm just saying extra bowling option that too offspin is handy while bowling to lefties, with both Chahal and Jaddu turning it into them.

We won't need to try Ashwin and Sundar then.
