Tewatia should have been selected, now Axar  will be playing and will dutifully vacant the slot when Jadeja recovers.

The reserve players should performed such that the seniors would find it difficult to directly walk in the playing 11

Tewatia has fitness issues, same as Shaw which are preventing him for getting selected.

Axar needs to do well in the chances he gets if he wants to  be regular

I don't think Tewatia has given a fitness test recently. He could have improved his fitness too (as in IPL he looked competitive in fitness as well)

Dunno, both him and Shaw are being kept out for fitness reasons. Sarfaraz in Tests too.

Don't know when they gave fitness tests.

Tewatia probably gave his test before the Eng tour of Ind in 2021, while Shaw gave one before the IPL

I think Tewatia's main issue is his bowling.

He can be a good lower-middle order hitter, but if he has to be the 5th bowler then his bowling must be more consistent.

Sure he can share it with Hardik.

Tewatia's fielding skills are pretty good as compared to Shaw who is mediocre in this regard.

He should have been given matches this series instead of Axar. The small gaps of bowling( 5th vs 6th bowler) shouldn't be a problem especially if he starts vs the likes of West Indies or Bangladesh.

Yeah, Tewatia should be in the T20 squad. For the top order (#1-3), Ind has many good options while Tewatia is among the handful of lower middle order (#6-7) match winners.
