vice captaincy in cricket

needless post that makes it difficult to drop the player when in bad form over another player who doesn't have any designated post.

I am not sure if VC has any kind of specific duties compared to any other senior player.. when captain is going out or not playing better for captain/coach to designate somone at that point than handing over to VC.

Anyways there is no guarantee that VC would be made captain in future.

Rahane and Rahul beneficiaries of this post.. making them difficult to drop over the years

I am not sure if it is a useless role IF the right person is appointed.

VC should monitor the game and bring his inputs on the field much like other leaders in the team. He should motivate the team as well esp. if an experienced campaigner.

Many times, a VC is a work in progress captain who is gaining experience to be the next captain. Therefore, the usefulness of VC also depends upon the goal.

captains don't change in Indian cricket.. they get a min. run of 5 years.. VC is not guaranteed  to get captaincy by then.. changing VC is good but that also makes it hard to drop him mid-series

Krishnamchari srikkanth directly dropped from the squad after he was the captain for a successful drawn series in pakistan. There should be no hierarchy. Selectors should not care whether he is a captain or vice captain.
