No it is not easy to beat a Test side even 1 out of 100. On the contrary i can say India could have lost the same test with the seniors.  Sarfraz for instance has been sizzling in domestic cricket. They couldn't even give him chance against Bangladesh. How will we know if he is good enough or not.  It is one thing to find a replacement for Tendulkar/Laxman/Dravid/Sehwag.  it is another thing to find test replacement for Pujara/Kohli/Rohit/Rahane. Later is much easier.

I'd say 99,999 out of 100,000 times we lose that test - it will not be replicated by India ever again & no that's not a slight on the test team! The issue is what works for us or what has worked better over the years we don't follow that or try to improve upon that, I'll give you a recent example -

 

Eng test earlier in the year, where do you think we lost the test? Yes selections were dubious to an extent & "timely" injuries didn't help either! Now what was the turning point according to you

Until India comes up with more finishers in the IPL (Not DK type who flattered to deceive one again) India won't do well in this format.  On the brighter side India can come up with a world class t20 bowling unit if they back the right guys. Right now we lack the all rounders who can strike in death. But this format is a fluke format. Even with poor team you can win tournaments.

It was a perfect storm. Perfect storms don't happen everyday. The same set of player played in Gabba test will not win anything of note if they continue to play for one full series. 

 

Yes Sarfraz has been in sizzling form this season .His body fat also is playing  a role in his selection.He is looking more like 1980 SL players Duleep Mendis and Ranatunga than modern cricketer He will get his spot sooner than later.VVS laxman scored 1400 plus in domestic cricket to earn Indian cap again.
