He keeps blabbering the same rubbish everywhere. Does the pitch decide - hey I will make Indian bowlers more lethal and I will take a different character for visitor bowlers ? Once the pitch is curated - it is same for both the teams. Yea I know. It's like trying to counsel a gambling addict by telling them their best option is to stop without providing any real therapy. zen
Thankfully, in hockey the surfaces are standardized or we could have teams resorting to surfaces like below to prevent other team from playing a good game: Then claim it is not cheating as "both teams get to play on it, it is not like the surfaces changes when the other team has the ball", "they offer better surfaces to suit a better style of play when we go there so why can't we use worse surfaces to suit our irrelevant style of play when they come here", "what about", ..., ... When domestic pitches were turning around/in 2015, below is what Dravid, probably U19 coach in that period, said at that time - Even Rahul Dravid was pretty blunt in saying that the domestic pitches, in general, this season have been poor. “We don't want green tops but also we don't want wickets where matches finish in two days and people who are bowling darts are getting six-seven wickets. I think we need to be very careful that we don't go down that path,” Dravid, who is coaching the under-19 Indian team, was quoted as saying by a news agency on Thursday." Sums of the performances of these so called spinners in India! Edited February 22, 2023 by zen Link to comment
rangeelaraja
More hollow arguments about how " standardized " the playing conditions are in field hockey and comparing it to non- standardized cricket pitches. The whole beauty of cricket is that for over 100 years the natural conditions -the natural soil and weather ( humidity, heat ) dictate the basic nature of the pitch. This is what has traditionally allowed Aussie pitches to favor fast bowlers or those can generate alot of bounce,, English and NZ conditions favor to heavily favor seam and swing and Asian conditions to heavily favor spin. Home teams use their conditions to their advantage, thats common sense. You wan't to kill all of this - that makes cricket so unique and exciting as a sport - just plug in factory produced matting wickets in every match and the ball will react the same whether in England or India, so that playing conditions are " standardized " . Dumb idea. Its also common sense after so many decades that Indians excel most on dry surfaces in Asia with slow turn that favor finger spinners more than wrist spinners. In this day and age, nothing about strengths and weakness of the opposition is a secret. To discredit the Indian spinners as if the pitch is their personal assistant and use language such as cheating and "so called spinners " . Sour grapes. Indian pitches are very good for fast bowing too. You either need bounce, accuracy and atleast 135 plus speed Or express speed with ability to reverse. You need skill to do well. Mcgrath steyn bumrah shami umesh all average around 20-23 in India. Vijy 1 Link to comment

India has the most variety when it comes to pitches. Each one has its own characteristics. For instance Nagpur was a red soil wicket. Delhi a black soil wicket. They changed the composition of 5 of the 8 pitches in 2013. hepauk’s chief curator K. Parthasarathy said to The Hindu: “A red soil wicket should not be misunderstood for a rank turner. If the wicket is watered and rolled properly, it will produce good, combative cricket on surfaces where the bounce will be good. Traditionally, red soil wickets have worked at Chepauk.” https://www.thehindu.com/sport/cricket/composition-of-five-pitches-at-chepauk-to-be-changed/article5238160.ece Vijy and speedracer 1 1 Link to comment
