Olympics is several notches above Asian Games or Commonwealth Games.

Many many countries much below in the tally than us in Asian Games or Commonwealth end always end up winning many more medals than us in Olympics.

If we can cross double digits in next Olympics ( which we have never done in our history ) - it would be a bigger achievement than 100 medals here at the Asian Games.

We need to be near unbeatable in 3-4 target  sports at Olympics level.

We should have world class athletes in numbers...the operative part is 'in numbers'...the larger the pool, the more the number of medals.

For ex Neeraj chopra is world class but not unbeatable....

We need to be near unbeatable in 3-4 target  sports at Olympics level.

these 3-4 target sports have to be shooting, wrestling (especially female as that has good results in cadet/juniors), boxing (female especially), athletics (lots of events - if we can have neeraj chopra like domination in 4-5 that is enough). badminton hockey etc too but not that many medals from those.

2024 can be:

shooting 0-3 (quality wise they are really good and even defeat olympic champions in other competitions but have choked twice now)

javelin 1-2 (neeraj will surely win a medal even if not gold unless something drastic happens. let's see how jena shapes up)

boxing 0-3 (mostly lovlina nikhat and maybe someone else bronze like lovlina last time)

wrestling 1-3 (have always won one so adding. antim is really good and should get a bronze at least. bajrang is good for a bronze too.)

hockey 0-1 (dont see the men's winning the gold tbh but should be good contenders for bronze)

badminton 0-2 (lakshya and men's doubles)

weightlifting 0-1 (mirabai)

so ideally should be around 9-10. we have had some surprises like lovlina and sakshi malik so can be some in 2024 too.

yeah. it should be more like domination of a particular field.

like chinese in badminton. they might not be the best at every one of the disciplines at the same time but they will be at a few.

Going above Iran should be number 1 priority in Paris.  We have to move past them.  For that we need minimum 4 gold medals..

tough though. some of their wrestlers are sure shot golds.

the only way we'll win 4 is

neeraj

nikhat

men's doubles

some shooting

and even these aren't guaranteed. wrestling is the most non-upset friendly sport there is.

TIER 1 - sports  we are already world class in (best in the world - wins gold at highest levels)

compound archery

TIER 2 - sports we are good in but not yet world class (wins a medal or two in olympics/world championships)

boxing

wrestling

badminton

shooting

athletics

hockey

weightlifting

TIER 3 - sports we are ok in (not yet world championship/olympic level but qualifies till quarter finals)

recurve archery

table tennis

TIER 4 - sports we are bad at (group stage exit in world championship/olympic)

swimming

cycling

rowing

etc etc

First priority should be to get TIER 2 to 1, then 3 to 2, then new sports in 4 to 3.  15 years down the line again move a tier up.

Diving and gymnastics also can hand us some medals if we invest in them. Soviets became a powerhouse by focusing on it from a young age.

yeah those will all be tier 4. if we invest now, we will be olympic level maybe 25 years from now. better to focus on tier 2 first and make them sureshot medal events.

Indian ladies through to the SF in compound archery women's team. 11 point win over HKG.

In the marathon the Indian man in 9th position +1 min behind the lead group with 10 km to go.

Inline skating is incredible to watch. First time seeing it. Iranian ladies crushing it. They are showing their hair a little though. Wonder if that will get them in trouble back home.

Indonesian ladies with a good performance vs Kazakhstan to win their QF. Will be tough opponents. They score more than the Indian ladies to win... 232/240.

Yeah...that  Maghsoodloo Parham from Iran - he was the cutting edge. I expected more from Gukesh and Pragg.

Gukesh has to work on his end game I have seen him crumbling under pressure many times whether it is chess Olympiad, resent world championship against Magnus in  Baku and now here I think Prag is better in that context he always find something and keep attacking even it’s loss

Watching Jiu-jitsu.

Looks the same as Judo and Kurash. I can't see how it is different. Can anyone explain the difference between the two in simple words? Also, not sure why a Brazilian martial art is being featured in the Asian Games. We should push for the OG martial art - Kalaripayatu to be included. It is way different from these.

Antim Panghal romping through her round vs her Uzbek opponent. Pretty comprehensive win. Her Uzbek opponent was a silver medalist at the 50kg category at the Asian Championships but is trying a higher weight class. Getting (wo)manhandled

Koreans very strong (236/240) despite the Vietnamese ladies who seemed determined to explore every number on the target. Finish with 236

India - Indonesia SF up next.

Crap! Antim has to face Fujinama Akori the world champ from Japan in the QF. She has no chance. Bronze the best bet for her. So unlucky to run into her so early!
