Axar is better than both.

Sundar can be developed into a genuine batting all rounder. He is a solid batsman who can accelerate  too if needed and a more than handy bowler. Right now TM seems to have no vision in his development.

Axar is primarily a bowler who can bat.

Sundar is not a hitter. He can play only at 4-5 where we play pure bats.

Sundar is more suited to Tests

Sundar is good, don't worry about hitting ability. Players are capable of working on that. Problem is injury with him. Unless he plays 6 months of full cricket without being injured, how will he merit a spot?

One good thing he does is, as and when he is available he plays whatever that he can play.  Yes. He has to stay clear of freak injuries.  That guy doesn't even look unfit when you see. He is not a fast bowler either. He is also young.  Ashwin despite not having super athletic look was always available. Only once he was out with hip injury. Other than he played all formats for a while. IPL regular for more than a decade. Test regular for more than a decade.

He might be the other extreme. Weak bones etc which is not apparent from looks.

So it looks like Chahal deserves his spot in rhe squad if not the starting xi.

One guy that doesn't feature in this list is Bishnoi as he hasn't played many ODIs. So we can only check T20I and see how he fared there. Chahal and Bishnoi have played 4 matches together in T20. Not much difference.

Yes.  India keeps backing  Chahal for one of those magic overs where he picks a couple of quick wickets in one over. That is a rare occurrence these days. Besides we have Kuldeep for that.

R Chahar is one guy who promised a lot but has disappeared. He would have filled in that breach and ensured Chahal doesn't get selected if he had impressed in 2021.
