We get such fighter mentality players in every state.

But prefer to choose the stats padders instead of the fighters.

Mohinder Amarnath was dropped even when he was performing.

Because he called the selectors a bunch of jokers.

actually to be fair amarnath was an enigma.. he scored centuries against west indies in west indies and then cam back home and i guess in a home test series scored 10 runs in 4 tests..

But today Rahane gets branded as specialist SENA BC's Batman when he has performed tailenderesqulerly in SC and not so special in SENA either

He called them a bunch of jokers because he was repeatedly dropped irrespective of performance.

Amarnath had a career average of 42.5 in tests. That too in an era of unusual help for pacers when very few batters averaged more than 50.  Which shows that he was sufficiently consistent.

Apart from.Gavsskar, no other Indian had significantly higher batting averages then, and most averaged lower than him.

And he performed in most test series vs the WI, Australia and Pakistan, the big teams of his era.

No way can his dropping be justified.

Amarnath won the freaking WC against the mighty windies. One of the greatest performances in the final.

Back then selection policies were strict.  Sandeep Patil was dropped for a reckless shot alongwith Kapil dev in Delhi Test. Azharuddin replaced Snadeep patil temporarily. After 3 tests he permanently replaced Sandip patil. GR Vishwanath dropped after failure in 2 test series. Amarnath was quiet an enigma back then. Played well in tough conditions. But failed in India where his scores read like zip code.  That was a revenge series for West Indies. They were very hostile.
