Before anyone laughs, Australia did this in their triangular tournament in the 90s, where they fielded Australia, Australia A and England.

 

NOTE The Australian A team was more followed, loved and supporter than the national team.

in 90s and 00s, Aus could have easily played 2 teams. however, Ind never had that kind of talent even at the peak of the 2010s

Shreyas Gopal

 

From the day Gopal made his first-class debut for Karnataka in the 2013/14 season, he’s been consistent with both bat and ball. This right-handed batsman was an opener for Karnataka in his U19 days, and batted alongside the likes of Karun and Samarth at the age-group level.

Later, he took a special liking for bowling and became a genuine leg-spinner although he could still contribute like a top-order batsman. Gopal began his first-class career by picking 5 wickets against Mumbai on debut, helping his team, Karnataka, register its first-ever outright win against their arch-rivals. He then signed off the season by picking up a famous hat-trick against a quality Rest of India side in the Irani Cup, 2014.

 

 

Now,after his debut, in 2020, Gopal has played a total of 82 first-class games and picked up 234 wickets at an average of 35, with seven 5-wicket hauls; he has also scored 3409 runs at an average of 35, including 6 centuries and 14 half-centuries.

The last round of the league stage of the 2023/24 Ranji Trophy season marked the end of a few exceptional careers. Along with Saurabh Tiwary, Varun Aaron played his last red-ball game for Jharkhand, while Manoj Tiwary and Faiz Fazal also retired following the last league stage games for their respective teams.

Jalaj was unlucky to be in the same era as Ashwin, but surely should have been ahead of Jayant in the pecking order a few years ago...definitely should had more A team oppos

 

Aniket too should have played more A team cricket at least and should have made test squads: iirc he took a 4 fer vs Bangladesh (or maybe Bangladesh A) he is a frequent net bowler for India because he's left arm and gets bounce, wrong side of 30 now.

 

 

Of the younger lot it feels like Indrajit and Bawne will be hard done by, some one like Patidar (who has a good but not as good FC career) has leap flogged them purely on the back of IPL profile , and did well vs Lions too tbf. I felt when Rohit was picked to open in tests that Panchal should have been tried instead !  how wrong I was 

 

Ricky Bhui is a other who's had GOod recent record and having a good season and hope he makes A team soon

 

Dharmendra Jadeja: given his age and the glut of slow left armers, is nowhere near A team even but been solid performer for years.

Jalaj Saxena became the first player in Ranji Trophy history to achieve the remarkable double of 400 wickets and 6000 runs.

 

The 37-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder, who surpassed the 6000-run mark with an 84 against Bengal last week, starred with the ball, claiming 5/56 in 17 overs to cross the 400-wicket milestone.

We are not talking a about players a decade back ie Amol Mujumdar, but many such players are still playing in.Ranji Trophy.

 

Jalaj Saxena is a opener ,who can bowl offspin .He   become only the third player in domestic cricket history to achieve the rare double of 9000 runs and 600 wickets during a Ranji Trophy

 

With 50 wickets, Saxena also finished as the highest wicket-taker in the 2022-23 season of Ranji Trophy.

Has bowled almost 30 overs in both innings.

Underrated performer. Should have played for India when we tried Jayant Yadav. Also a useful batsman

He should have been selected for home series against teams like Bangladesh,West Indies.

 

Its shame inspite of being opener and offspinner ,who can play as both pure batsman or pure offspinner ,he was never considered 

 

We have seen some players selected for their IPL perfomances.
