Plus he was Marshall with the ball ...... including the 19 average it helps to be considered better than Holding, Garner and Roberts with the ball.

He is the best ever. Incontrovertible.

Assuming everyone fit, here is the probable squad for the marquee Aus tour.

Openers : Rohit, Jaiswal, backup opener

Middle order: Gill, Kohli, KL, Pant, Jurel, backup batsman

Spinners: Kuldeep, Ashiwn, Jadeja

Pacers: Bumrah, Siraj, Shami, Akashdeep, Shardul, backup pacer

1. Need one backup opener and one backup middle order. Sarfaraz, Paddikal or someone else. These two bastman spots are still open.

2. One more fast bowler also need to be inducted. But its better not be Mukesh.

No great team ever played four number elevens from 8 to 11 and that includes the GOAT teams.

India should never play four pacers who avg below 10, Akashdeep is a proper tailender, lets see how good Rana is, we want at 25 aceraging batsman at number 8 and I am quite sure Rana won’t be able to manage that.

You are wrong about playing four pacers and no we won’t win matches like that.Batting strength matters.

Harshit Rana averages 49 with the bat in FC with a century and a fifty in 7 matches. If that is not good enough for No.8 then it's a very defensive approach. He is likely to average 17+ in tests.

Akashdeep and Shami are not No.11s with the bat. They both average 12+ with the bat and Akashdeep is batting better in recent times and may average 15+ in tests.

Bumrah has improved his batting in the last 2 years. We saw that in England.

These are my choices from 8 to 11 in Australia.

The No.11 quality batters are Mukesh, Siraj and Prasidh. And I don't want them playing together. Don't want Mukesh at all.

The examples of Marshall and Warne are not very apt. They are 2 of the best bowlers ever to have played the game of cricket and would have been picked even if they averaged 1 with the bat.

What ATG teams do is that they encourage their upcoming strike bowlers to practice batting from.a young age. They don't pick bits and pieces players at 8 and 9.in the name of improving batting strength and compromise their bowling strength

The average you have quoted is inflated by scoring a century against North East bowlers.

If he is indeed a capable batsman then it will make sense but he definitely has to be as hood as Shardul ( who just scored a century against TN in semis) otherwise it won’t matter much.

You seem to not understand what a fourth pacers duty is, you can’t just play another pacer in that position, that’s actually a spot reserved for an all rounder and not a frontline pacer.

We will play three frontline pacers, one spinner and one fourth pacer who isn’t a frontline bowler.

Going by your batsman logic, if four main bowlers can’t take wickets then how come the 5th bowler will do that?

Theres no place for a fourth pacer unless he can bat, also we don’t have Marshalls, Warne etc so we actually need to stock up our batting .

Harshit did contribute with the bat against NEZ(31,38) in Duleep trophy and Delhi's last Ranji match last season against Hyderabad(58,dnb) that I could see(not all 7) out of 7 FC matches

He certainly can bat, maybe not at current Thakur level international cricket but then Thakur is regressing and someone has to replace him ofcourse he should be able to bat infact most of the fast bowlers can hold the bat and our bowlers too should

We don't have any options in pace department of you're looking for a pacer who can avg 25 with bat.

Shardul is also a 19 averaging batter, his bowling is just serviceable.

Unless Hardik magically avails himself for Tests, but chances are as slim as Tim Cook replacing Sundar Pichai in Google.
