Trichromatic
He made his ODI debut in 2010, test debut in 2011 WI series. It was amazing to see 120 kph Praveen Kumar (good bowler though), injured Zaheer Khan, Dhoni bowling RP Singh brought back from vacation, Sreesanth lacking stamina, but no place for genuine fast bowler in the test side. deathmonger
?? He made his debut in the 2011 WI series that followed. Reason he got that was cause of the old guard flopping. Sreesanth still was an incumbent and had bowled well in SA. Praveen also was in the pecking order. Only post 2011 Eng loss did selectors look to Umesh, Aaron etc. Vijy 1 Link to comment

Was Umesh injured in 2014, why was he not playing that series. Link to comment

Dhoni never knew how to use fast bowlers. There is a reason why he looked lost as captain in away series. Edited March 17 by putrevus Vijy 1 Link to comment

Just cause he was successful in LOI doesn't mean he Was great in tests. Despite us winning everything with him, he was the worst thing to ever happen to us for tests. Guy is a joke in tests. He made us a joke in that 2011 to 2012 period I know we won the WC and all but losing like that in tests was the most humiliating experience I have ever had to go through as a indian fan. Sure 90s etc had worse days and even 80s but the way he mismanaged india was a disgrace. In 90s we lacked talent so it was understandable. Before 60s the era was a joke filled with amaateurs mostly and racist dogs who player cricket as a hobby. So don't care for those times. In post 2000 era we always had talent. That guy should have been stripped off tests and t20 captaincy in 2012 itself. It's a farce how indian board let him carry on tile 2014. putrevus and Vijy 2 Link to comment

But he looked lost in 2012 series when Ash and Ohja were getting mauled and he never trusted fast bowlers.India had Umesh who was better in India than even Andy but Dhoni never used him. I don't remember why he was not picked in last three tests in that 2012 series loss. Link to comment
vvvslaxman
He was erratic yadav back then. Could have been backed. But we didn't have a system that encouraged fast bowlers back then. Link to comment
putrevus
Who fault is that, the same Umesh and Shami played for India for decade after Dhoni and have been very serviceable. Dhoni looked lost once Zaheer was out or ineffective.Zaheer was never that good as Shami or Umesh in India. Dhoni is the same captain who could not force a win even with 440 runs to defend in 4th innings. Dhoni is one lucky sob, he got all the credit for all good things which happened under his watch but any bad thing which happened it was on players. Even when he was not captain bowlers like Kuldeep were giving him all the kuduos for their performances but when they stunk Dhoni was not taking any responsibility for their bad performances.
