You can't be sure about that, his power game has regressed, his footwork too has gone

He can play pace well, that is very true

But won't be served with pacers all the time even in SA 27

It is in best interest of the side to find replacement of Kohli and give ample time to settle in

his power game has regressed

which is why he rightly quit t20

Similar to Australia, SA is paradise for pace bowlers. His nimble footwork and shot making against pace is next to none.

ODI's always required run a ball through out the history. Albiet slowdown in power game, his six hitting did not decline against pace. He is solid against spin but not dominating like younger days.

It is in best interest of the side to find replacement of Kohli and give ample time to settle in

Yes. find replacement for rohit/kohli and take a call prior to one year of ODI World Cup. Rohit has game but not fitness to last beyond 10 overs. I am sure, you would agree kohl's fitness is still great for ODI game.

He can't play pace anymore unless it's a half volley.

He can't hit good length deliveries or even short balls with any consistency.   Could only score against Jansen because he kept floating it up. Against spin, he couldn't even take on a rank average offspinner like Markram let alone legspinners or left arm spinners.

He was out of touch for majority of the tournament. To play the way he did in final to get India to a par score of 180 is phenomenal

Could only score against Jansen.

He scored against rabada too.

Yes. He had 50% odds of ending up like rohit/pant. He failed to take on spinners yet the same time he did not throw his wicket away.

His t20 game declined, he is no longer playing the format. His decline is not in ODI's which is why he was ODI player of the year in 2023 by ICC

Vs Pak 2022,vs Aus 2016 weren't KOs

You stand corrected, It was virtual quarter final against AUS since only one of AUS vs IND would reach semis.

pak 2022 too is a crucial match since India almost  lost to Bangladesh in a rain curtailed match. Keeping this context, had we lost against PAK, would have dented psychologically and would have been tough to qualify.

Still both weren't KOs,since beginning we had second chance

They can't be counted as official KOs,

Super 10s,super 6s,Super 4s don't count as KOs,yes you can deem one of those as high stakes games or virtual KOs not official KOs,they don't get into KO record books

Correct me if I'm wrong

I'm not talking about this tournament alone.

This has been a pattern across formats.  Even in the last World T20 , the match against Bangladesh, the difference between his batting and Litton's knock was Litton's ability to hit seamers off a good length. I put it up on a thread here back then.

Kohli gets tied down by too many different types of bowlers and lengths regardless of format.

It's just that he is allowed to anchor endlessly in ODIs while others hit around him.

In t20's , he never bogged down while chasing. Generally speaking, setting a target in t20's is always challenging.

was he tied down by hairs rauf, Naseem shah, shaheen shah afridi and shadab khan in 2022 t20 vs PAK in MCG where he scored 26 in the last 8 balls.  ???? Kohli is a beast in chasing and is average while setting target since he is not sure of the target to set.

35 year old kohli is << 30 year old kohli but he is definitely not getting tied down. 100 % strike rate is fine in ODI's . 2019 World Cup ENG barely struggled to chase 241. India barely scored 240 in 2023 ODI final. if 325-350 is a norm in ODI's in world cups, yes kohli getting tied down is a problem.

Yes we did. Check the net run rate of Aussies . If aus had won, they net run rate was way better than afganistnham and AUS with equal points would have played semifinal and it would have been AUS vs SA semis.

That was a typo,I missed a word there

It wasn't a KO where we eliminated them

So, basically we are supposed to forget that setting a target is completely irrelevant in T20I'S.

The way Kohli batted against Pakistan in that match was not viable at all.

It won't come off regularly and yes he was tied down by Shadab Khan if not the others.

There's no point clinging on to one knock in the last 4 years.  That's the outlier not the norm.

His ability has declined significantly.

Unlike SRT who could still hit short of a length stuff at 152 kph like he did against Steyn in 2011 World Cup at the age of 38, Kohli does not have that kind of ability anymore.

But aus match was last match

I repeat, was it an Officiall KO?

We had a chance against BD earlier

I understand,it was a terrific innings which ensure our SF place

KOs are solitary match

Sachin is a superior batter technically but always failed in big matches , specially in finals. Check his overall record.

Did he not hit rabada in the t20 final. Sachin could hit, play beautiful drives but would succumb to preassure in big matches. This is coming from some one having watched sachin since 1995.

No, as I accepted he has better record in chasing . while setting a target, he was average.

His ability has declined significantly.

Yes which is why he has retired from t20's. He was man of the tournament in two t20 editions, played well in 2024 t20's final. He is no longer the force he used to be, hence retired.

If GG becomes coach , very slim chance most of the seniors will be in team , be it T20 or ODI.  Only Tests would be where they will be considered .

T20 clean up will start right from next series , the retirement of 3 stalwarts just a pointer towards that.

I expect the same once CT25 gets over, very little chance of him playing in 2027.

Fitness is one thing, having reflexes and peak game  till another 3 years is hard and GG will not go by sentiments , his only goal is a win.

Just listen to Abhishek Nair , what is GG's mentality re: winning , he is not bothered about other things and stardom.

BTW both Rohit & VK had enough wc to win. They will be given one more chance to do whatever they can in CT25 which looks very fair to me  IMO.

By the way, Kohli has scored more runs batting first than chasing in KOs
