But what good does finishing a few spots above India in this Olympics do for Pakistan in the long run? It's not like they have a long queue of future medal prospects apart from Nadeem. First medal in 32 years and who knows how many more years before another Pakistani stands on the Olympic podium.

I think this will inspire a new generation, Pakistan will definitely have more medals in the future and with the induction of cricket and squash in the next games, our chances are even better

Another prospect is Jehannara Nabi, she’s only 20 and debuted at the Paris games. I think she can definitely win a medal with better trainers.

Lol Pakistan isn't winning a swimming medal for the next 50 years.

She got a universality place and finished behind some 15 year old Indian kid (who herself had a universality place).

Squash like I said Pakistan is nowhere plus no women's/mixed teams.

Women's cricket not possible.

Men's maybe but due to continental spots might not get a spot.

If it's a 6 team event it will be

Host country, Oceania, Europe, Asia, America, Africa

Kabbadi is assured gold unlike cricket.

India might lose to Australia or NZ in the finals.

Lost to Iran in 2018 asian games and won only bronze. Not guaranteed.

We beat them last year tho.

We will see what happens in 4, 8 , 12, 16, 20 years from now. I know many Indians didn’t even rate Nadeem prior to today and were saying Pakistan might get a bronze because the gold was Neeraj’s birthright and then some European athlete would take silver. In the Olympics history, crazier things have happened and there’s currently serious efforts being made in Pakistan to improve in sports other than cricket, that’s also why we made the second round in football World Cup qualifying for the first time in history, there’s definitely a lot of synergy.

I watched the full hockey final, including shootouts. Switched to javelin after that finished, missed initial throws.

I'll be honest. This was the first time in my life where I watched a major hockey final (Olympics/WC) and felt that India can beat either of the finalists, that we are on the same level. When I watched the Tokyo final or last WC final I though those top 2 teams play at a level which we can never come close to. Even in Rio final, I thought we could beat Argentina (we actually beat them in group stage back then), but not Belgium.

Then Neeraj does his thing, consistency is his forte and even on a bad day he can maintain 87+....others on their bad days struggle to cross 80. He performed at his usual level and now we can forget that firangi Norman Pritchard forever. Look at Neeraj's consistency, guys like Vetter, Anderson Peters, Arshad may have higher peaks.....they are like Wawrinka, but our guys is Djokovic, the man to beat in every major competition.

Sleep well folks, today was one of the best days of these Games, 21 yo kid Aman has also put himself in a position to win bronze.

Neeraj is like Djokovic, consistency personified. Nadeem beating him here is like Stan Wawrinka beating him those select few times to deny him GS titles.

lol.

Nadeem is a  freak athlete.

Other things require systems. You can make efforts, but ultimately $$$ is needed.

Why is the Pakistan hockey and cricket team in such bad condition then if it was so easy?

And making 2nd round in football qualifying is nothing big lol.

You can keep seeing what happens.

So you agree Novak at his peak cannot beat Wawrinka at his peak :phehe:.

Agree with your points on Neeraj's consistency.

His game used to match up well against Novak's.

Not really. I did say nadeem can win. His Pb his higher than neeraj.

Neeraj producing his career best throw in second attempt when he was severly under pressure and securing silver was legendary. He is made of different stuff.

Numbnuts saying he choked, that would have been getting in a 80m throw after the 93 m monster from Nadeem and failing to better it.

It’s about progress, we had never made it past the first round. On a separate note the AFC is screwing asian football, they should make the qualifiers a round robin like in Europe so the smaller teams get more game exposure.

He dint choke one bit. Guy is clutch as *. He just dint expect nadeem to be so good. His Pb was higher than neeraj anyway. Neeraj can still win in the next Olympics.

I think comparisons to other sports doesn’t make much sense but as of right now Neeraj is more like 2012 Andy Murray, he’s talented and has had success but a big part of his brand is that he’s the premier athlete of a huge country that traditionally hasn’t done well at athletics. It’s also why Pakistanis rate Nadeem so high cause we’ve never had anyone like him. Djokovic is a beast in a whole ‘nother category because the Balkans have always produced great tennis players.

I mean Neeraj is a two time Olympic medalist, two time Worlds medalist with two golds. That is the best CV amongst the current crop of javelin players.

Andy Murray never had that at any time when he was playing.
