Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani (2013, Hindi) :star::star::star:

A good time pass film. It has most of the things that Bollywood audiences like - love story, friendship, phoren locations, some good songs, marriage ceremony, etc.

However, many of the things that are portrayed as cool and/or amazing (like a dream to achieve), I have already done that so they appear as normal to me.

PS the film has been running for a while and had a good audience so appears to be a popular re-release!

This documentary is great! https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/bonobos/dewaal.html

The Brutalist (2024) :star::star::star::star::star:

I did not know what to expect but ended up being mesmerized by the film esp. its cinematography. It has solid acting. The story can feel as if it is based on a true story but it’s not.

It is probably not a film for everyone but those who are into subjects such as architecture are likely to like it!

Btw, the Brutalist was shot in VistaVision, a format used by likes of Hitchcock in many of his films:

Fanaa (2006, Hindi) :star::star::star::star:1/2

A re-release. Enjoyed watching this - good songs, nice acting, pristine locations, etc., along with classic songs being played in the background and shyris!

The is based on the book (1978) or film (1981)-  Eye of the Needle. This Bollywood adaption shines. It is good to see Aamir Khan play two different shades in his role. Kajol as usual is effective.

This is relatively a sophisticated Bollywood film and has aged well.

Black Bag (2025) :star::star::star::star:

A slow suspenseful spy thriller. The theme is Hitchcockian.

Fassbender plays a relatively emotionally detached (apart from with his wife) and logical character to sound like an AI.

Sinners (2025) :star::star::star:1/2

A good time pass watch in the mould of “From Dusk till Dawn”.

Andaz Apna Apna (1994, Hindi) :star::star::star::star:

Inspired by Bedtime Story (1964), then remade as Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), Andaz Apna Apna remains a fun ride that successfully keeps the audience smiling. The film was restored for the theatrical release.

Ground Zero (2025, Hindi) :star::star::star:1/2

Had no idea about the film. My friends took me to it. This is a grounded movie on Kashmir. The action scenes are not over the top and have elements of tense moments. Songs only play in the background. Good to see Emraan Hashmi on screen.

Mission Impossible: the Final Reckoning (2025) :star::star::star:1/2

Not the usual fun MI film but it has its moments to serve as a time pass film (though with a run time of close to 3 hours, it does have its share of dull moments).

Bhool Chuk Maaf (2025, Hindi) :star::star:1/2

My friends took me to see it. Ok for timepass but it is not a film that I would go to see on my own.

If your friends insist that you see Bhool Chuk maaf, you should do the only respectable thing in that scenario.

Change your freinds.

They probably took tickets from what they thought was decent from the available shows.

One is a VP of a major insurance company.

Other manages a 500+ crores business.

The third (a builder) was visiting theatres after years.

So these guys, who don’t think about films too much, can be forgiven for their choice :lol:

Thug Life (2025, Hindi dubbed) :star::star::star:

Overall, a time pass watch.

I went to see it as I hadn’t watched a Kamal Hassan film in a long time. Also it marketed itself as an AR Rahman musical so I thought it would be a good way to experience his music including the background score. It is directed by Mani Ratnam.

At first, it was difficult to recognize Kamal Hassan without his moustache. I thought it was Gulshan Grover but then I was like “oh, it’s Kamal”.

AR Rahman’s score was average esp. considering his high standards. I can’t remember any song walking out of the cinemas.

I liked the B&W sequences. Because you do not get to see those often on screen. I would have liked it if the entire film was shot in B&W.

Overall, a time pass watch.

Ballerina (2025) :star::star:1/2

Formulaic. It has almost everything that you have seen before but the issue is that it does not push the limits.

A film that you can watch if you have time to kill but if you skip it, you won’t regret not watching it.
