Rate the films you watched in cinemas (2024 and onwards)

Please read the below before posting!

Employ a 5 star rating system where:

  • 5 stars :star::star::star::star::star: = 9-10/10 = Excellent = Take my $$$ = Don’t miss it in the cinemas
  • 4 stars :star::star::star::star: = 7-8/10 = Very Good = Watch it in the cinemas if you find time
  • 3 stars :star::star::star: = 5-6/10 = Good or Time-pass or Average = Better to watch it on streaming (not accounting for subscription charges which are like fixed cost) = Watch it in the cinemas only/mostly if you are into the franchise, actors, director, genre, etc.
  • 2 stars :star::star: = 3-4/10 = Bad or Avoid = Rather donate your $$$ than spend on its tickets
  • 1 star :star: =  1-2/10 = Worst = I want my $$$ back = The director should be deprived of blankets during winter

The rating should ideally be based on the quality of the film and not based on any political, racial, regional, religious, etc., connections or motivations!

You are welcome to write reviews. You can mention if you watched it on IMAX and/or other such premium formats.

This is only for 2024 and onwards films so we can capture the current (not retrospective) view!

Classic films that are re-released in theatres count too. For e.g. Rear Window (1954) is celebrating its 70th anniversary so will be in selected theatres in the US in August - Link

PS You can also rate direct to streaming films (or made for TV films) here as many quality/anticipated films go straight to Netflix, Amazon, etc. (I.e. they don’t get a theatre release or only get a limited theatre release in certain regions).

This year so far:

5 stars :star::star::star::star::star:

Dune 2 (watched it twice)

Furiosa (watched it thrice)

The next film that I am planning to watch in the cinemas is Joker: Folie a Deux, which is coming out in October around my birthday so I hope that it turns out to be a good present!

Dune's story is ridiculous. It is LOL worthy. However, the cinematics were outstanding. Def worth watching in the theatre for the visuals. Not sure how ppl thrash Avatar but applaud Dune. IMO, Avatar is far superior product. Star rating: Visuals - :star::star::star::star::star:, Story & acting : :star:

Furiosa - also silly - but def worth watching in IMAX for the visuals. The desert landscapes were just mindblowing. TBH I thought Fury Road was more spectacular. The Furiosa character didn't resonate with me as much as Tom Hardy's did.

Visuals: :star::star::star::star::star: Story & Acting: :star::star::star:

I'm confused because according to your rating they are both 5 star - but in terms of content they are both not.

Give your own rating!

If there are other films that you watched in cinemas, you can list them too.

Deadpool and Wolverine (2024) becomes only the 2nd R-rated film after Joker (2019) to gross $1B - Link

I tend to avoid superhero films (now usually watch them on streaming if in the mood for them) unless from the Batman series, whose dark tone I like, but this one is now tempting me :hmmmm:

Deadpool and Wolverine (2024)

3 stars :star::star::star:

I had no major expectations from this apart from having a few laughs and in that respect, it delivered.

Since I am not into this genre, it is not the type of film that I would watch again in the cinema. Maybe will catch it again on streaming when in the mood for such a film!

On a separate note, do you go to movies or a restaurant alone ?

Both depending on the film, if I am watching it multiple times, and mood likr “oh this film starts in an hour, you know what, let me go and watch it”.

Watching films in theatres is not an event for me. My homes are also near cinemas, either a short drive or within walking distance.

I am used to traveling alone on business across the world so also don’t mind going to a restaurant alone if that is what is required :eating: … But usually, I go to restaurants with someone.

When you are in school/university, you can find company easily. Outside of it, you have to coordinate, which can be a hassle.

Apart from doing forced or routine activities outside of home, some of you guys need to step out of your home to enjoy “outside” life, which includes visiting the cinema as well!

In general, more lenient towards Indian movies because I watch those with minimum expectations.

Have missed a few (talking only about 'in cinema' ones). Shall update when they cross my mind.

I watch a movie in theatre almost every Friday.....mostly alone, sometimes with colleagues/friends (yesterday went with a larger group because some of them were fans of Maddock horrorverse). With family usually Sunday morning once a month.

@zen, some movies like Kill (Hindi) and Anatomy of a Fall (French) released in Indian theatres this year only. They may have released elsewhere or in film festivals last year.

So included those. Strictly not 2024 releases but you get the point!!!!

Definitely go by the releases (or re-releases) in your region as I gave Rear Window’s example.

If a film is not released in your region (as certain films only get limited releases in certain region) or is direct to streaming (many good films go straight to Netflix for e.g.), you can rate those here too as there is no other option but to watch them on TV.

PS btw, this year, you already watched 20+ films in cinemas, that’s good going :thumb:

The Crow (2024) is coming out on 08/23:

The trailer does not do enough for me. It tells me to wait for it to hit streaming. Only if the reviews are close to outstanding, it would tempt me to watch it in theatres.
