mikeypbadana86 Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 Going back in memory, it was during 2005 Greg chappel created havoc in Indian cricket asking BCCI to sack Ganguly, created divide pitting Dravid against Gangly. He had a merit in asking Gangly to step down from captaincy since gangly was out of from and did not take his fitness seriously. While his emphasis on introducing young blood had merit, his method of man management was horrible. He would ask sehwag to work on fitness when sehwag was naturally gifted. He would ask sachin to bat at number 4 when sachins preference was always to open. He created "my way or highway" culture , created a terrible dressing room environment. It led to a disastrous 2007 World Cup . His notable contributions were inclusion of suresh Raina and mentoring Dhoni to an extent. India as nation and country historically has a sporting culture where the "super star" culture would always exist. He tried to do it the Australian way. Cut to 2024, Gambhir assumes captaincy after India won the t20 World Cup. Gambhir as a player would always crib about "one man ship/star culture" overshawoding other equal contributions like yuvraj(his grudge against dhoni walking with the laurels) , him/yuvraj not getting due credit. When entire experts were praying kohli for his 50th ton, he said "Its no big deal to chase mile stones, the focus should be on team winning etc". Football too has super star culture like messi/ronaldo. Some how Gambhir is dead against it and has an agenda of destroying. The focus of coach should be to yield maximum results not come with a biased agenda. He too similar to greg chappel is encouraging young talent like nitish Kumar reddy/dhruv jurrel but has terrible man management skills. Dressing room atomposher is terrible. How on earth kohli/rohit who did great in 2023 ODI World Cup final, 2024 t20 World Cup final suddenly lost form? He is creating "my way or highway"/insecure dressing room. He had experience of coaching an IPL club like KKR but a misfit to coach top tier international cricket team like India. Even with rohit/kohli gone/removed by him, He is surely gonna take Indian cricket backwards.
Gollum Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 (edited) Chappell took many brave calls, openly went against seniority (especially Ganguly) mafia, backed youngsters to the hilt, along with Dravid helped us overcome the fear of chasing in ODIs. We reaped many of those benefits in 2007-11....Kirsten didn't have to take such difficult calls because of Chaps, hence team atmosphere was good. Harendra Singh did the same with Indian hockey (Sardara's coterie held us back, and we wasted peak years of an outstanding generation) in 2017-18, and that helped his successors. Sure cost him his popularity and acceptance in HI, but someone has to take tough decisions. What is GG's legacy? GG is going after youngsters and protecting seniors, so opposite of Chappel Manucrick 1
mikeypbadana86 Posted January 5, 2025 Author Posted January 5, 2025 @Gollum You can cross verify this. Greg chappel had a terrible coaching/selector stint in CA. Cricket Australia has banned Greg chappel to not be present any where around Australian team. There was no Ganguly mafia but team of Ganguly comprising sehwag, yuvraj, harbajan and zaheer khan. 2003 India were World Cup finalists where as 2011 they won it. Greg Chappells positive things were suresh rain, insisting on fitness culture. I am talking about his poor man-management skills where he troubled a gifted batter like sehwag/rubbed sachin too on the wrong side. No one is against tough decisions, Its Gautham the coach with poor man management skills
devisreeprasadmahesh Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 GG can't bowl or bat for team India since he's the coach. He needs proper batters and bowlers as a coach. Even a request for pujara was declined. Bcci needs to dismantle itself and clown selector Agarkar should be fired
mikeypbadana86 Posted January 5, 2025 Author Posted January 5, 2025 The job of coach is to create a supportive off field environment where the entire team could play as a unit which was visible under Dravids era( I am sure Dravid the wall would have been handy to work on technical flaws of Virat too during the series) . Garry kiristen, Ravi sasthri and Dravid . This is the pedigree of coaches we had. Gambhir is taking the team backwards with aggressive approach, not taking a back seat and with an imposing attitude.
