Dravid has a neutral stance. Doesn't go too deep, Doesn't bat outside the crease.  Always his upperbody moves in forward direction with feet planted unlike Kohli whose entire body including feet in the forward direction.   If he sense ball is too full his feet also move forward. If he senses it is short of a length his feet move. He has less things to adjust just in case if he had misjudged his length.  In other words he doesn't commit himself too early. This makes him one of the hardest batsman to dismiss in cricket. In entire cricketing history only 3 batsmen have 100 balls per inning average. Dravid leads the pack.

Kallis: 103.2

Border: 101.9

As a comparison Kohli's average stay at the crease was around 86 balls in 2018. Now it has come down to 79 balls. That is an alarming dip. IN the last 2 series median stay at the crease is 14 balls or so.

this must be 2001 or so ... there is another set of innings where he single handedly won the test in 2006 vs West Indies. The 3 tests were all drawn and Brian Lara got a venomous pitch for the final test and Dravid got our first series win in West Indies after 35 years or so

That was one of the most treacherous pitch. Lara was full of praise for those knocks as he said it was unplayable on that pitch.

Tough pitches? We can't even bat on decent pitches like MCG or Adelaide, or even at home. If we bat more than 70 overs and put up a 1st innings score of more than 200, that is an achievement for the current team.

In 97, Dravid must have been 25 years or so... Just shows that a youngster with better reflexes has a better chance of survival than a  36 year old

Yep.. once upon a time he did have the fastest 50 in ODIs for India. (20 odd balls I think)

VVS/Ganguly/Dravid were young but there was no excuse for Sidhu/Azhar/Nayan Mongia in that test...
