So what,  Rahul has played as WK in tests . He is keeper in odis too. I don't think he is inadequate to handle a single test.

Jaiswal and nair decision were controversial. They were definitely going leg side. Expect that there were looking pretty solid

They've batted pretty well in overcast conditions. Given the flakiness of the batting lineup from the recent series, this kind of start in the test in similar conditions would be an ideal scenario. KL in particular is looking solid. The spell from Woakes was testing and it was his first innings in England. He looks in good touch and is leaving the ball well when necessary and showing good judgement.

So KL Rahul is getting his one of his two useful knocks of series quota out of the way here itself.

 

He will start stinking up the joint for most part of the series as usual. We can now almost assure India will lose one wicket before crossing 10 in 8 out 10 innings in the series.

 

He can no longer hide behind seniors.

I'll play Jurel over Sai Sudharsan  

Jurel and Sudarshan are not vying for the same spots.. Sai Sudarshan is a proper top order batsman with solid technique and has been in great form coming into this tour. Jurel has done ok in the middle order in the 2 games as a keeper/bat alternative to Pant but can't penalise Sudarshan for not being in the group that  came to England early.

Sudharsan was flopped in Australia ( A tour) . He has average below 40 in first class cricket .he is unproven in longer formats . We can't play him based on IPL performance. 

 

I'm not saying he is useless but Jurel is batting good so is Karun Nair.  No place for Sai atleast in first test .

it is very possible they will play both Pant and Jurel even though it did not work last time, i would like to see Sai though since we need to figure out our future batting in Tests and Sai has the most future of our uncapped players.

He has been selected in the team as a top order batsman and you are suggesting dumping him in favour of a keeper when he's just landed in the country and before he's even played a practice match ! By your logic, Sarfaraz who has great first class stats but is not in the team should be playing ahead of both.

When karun is playing nicely and guys has enough experience for English condition( County experience) then why they play Sai in place of karun .no sence 

 

Sai can wait as we have 5 test. 

 

For first test Sai has no place in the playing Eleven .

Jurel is already played test cricket and Winning the match (vs England in india ) 

 

We can Play two wk when they are so good. Whats the problem? 

 

For first test our batting is mostly sorted.  Sai has no place in the first test playing Eleven although I'm a fan of Sai.

Indian cricket has had a lot of muddled thinking and lack of role clarity over the last few series. Part of this has been vagueness about the role of the keeper and whether their key role is that of a batsman or a full time keeper. Again you are proposing immediately slotting Jurel into a role as a specialist batsman from the 1st test.  Lack of role claroty was the issue with Pant as well in Australia where he was consistently batted too high in the order rather than at 6 or 7 where every other team plays their keeper.  This is the ideal time to set a young team structure in place for the round of WTC that is beginning from this series. The top order in the last few test series has been awful but at least now they have two vacancies with Ro-Ko gone.  Jaiswal, KL, Gill are locked in. Then we need 2 more top order bats and I would pick Sai and Karun Nair. My team has one slot for one of Thakur/Reddy or Kuldeep to fill one slot depending on conditions but the choices are not ideal there and the picks would be condition dependent. There is no slot for Jurel in the starting XI at the moment but over the series he will get his chance.

These are not warm up games for the selected India side. It is an India-A tour game and only players the BCCI agreed to release early from IPL were in the squad because their teams didn't make the later rounds. To play these game was not Sudarshan's decision to make. The same argument goes for all other players who landed today as well. Their acclimitisation and practise games will begin now and are separate from the India A tour.

His team was knocked out a few days before the Q2 and FInal- he could have himself requested to come to Eng and play these matches but he chose not too.. hes a debutant he needs to show how serious he is about red ball cricket.. the others are established members of the test team. There is a difference but having your captain being your franchise captain comes with perks..
