"Weak Test batsman"

No centuries in England.

Farookh Engineer and Rishabh Pant have scored centuries in England in Test format.

Both of them have more overseas hundreds in test format.

Scores of 92, 82 etc in test format are nothing. Batsman are scoring that many runs even in 20 overs.

The poster Johns is making it look like he has scored a 200, 190, 180 etc. The fact is he does not even has a ton in England in fact after so many matches. Rishabh Pant is already ahead of Dhoni in test and he will score more tons overseas.

Dhoni saved Lord's in 07 which allowed India to win there and that is good. A century is an arbitrary number.

Rishabh Pant is better obviously but Dhoni was decent for a WK-bat.

All are numbers but there is a difference but numbers like 159, 146, 114, 100 and numbers like 92,90,82,82 They shows the ability of the individual batsman's capability in scoring runs in test. They are important to measure performance in long careers which players like Dhoni and Rishabh Pant will have.

Rishabh Pant's top 4 in SENA

159 - Sydney

146 - Birmingham

114 - Oval

100 - Cape Town

Dhoni's top 4 in SENA

92 - Oval

90 - Centurion

82 - Nottingham

82 - Oval

Batsmen like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sehwag, VVS will laugh at the scores of 92, 90, 82 and 82 in test format. These are mediocre scores in test format imo atleast. Fine if you have a different view though.

I was comparing to Wk-bat which is what he is.

Rishabh Pant is also a wicket keeper batsman. He has outperformed Dhoni.

Rishabh Pant has already surpassed Dhoni in 43 tests, which is actually 47 tests less than Dhoni played. It will be interesting to see how many more runs Rishabh will score in SENA if he has 90 test career like Dhoni.

Dhoni was a handy test batsman, thats about it. Rishabh Pant is way better than Dhoni in test and in particular he is extremely better than Dhoni especially in SENA tests.

Dravid avg under 30 in SA and would have done same in Australia if not Warne and McGrath missing and very very flat pitches in 2003-04 not to mention his struggles in SL.

Dhoni’s struggles in Australia and SA for WK is quite normal. He is no Adam Gilchrist but he  still very very good wk batsman.

He was weaker against fast bowlers but he was 100 percent upgrade over any of his contemporary keepers like DK, Saha.

To call Dhoni as weak wk batsman is nonsense TBH.

Wow, if you are comparing Dravids avg with Dhonis avg in SA,both had a vast difference in time when they played there

No one said he wasn't. Rishabh is prolly India's greatest WK bat.

But Dhoni is no bum. And was decent for a WK-bat.

Agree that dhoni was a handy batsman in test.

My response was  to comment by Johns who mentioned top scores of Dhoni in England, which imo are mediocre in test format if they are any batsmans peak scores. Peak scores should be big numbers.

I'd say he was solidly consistent in England without having big scores. Was even good in the 2011 and 2014 nightmare series.

That lords test saving 70 odd was better than many hundreds scored by #10 on flat wickets In England.

Honestly the ball stopped swinging in most of those innings after he came to bat.
