If Pant did not arrive to scene, Dhoni would have been the best WK batsman from Asia even in tests also.Only behind Adam Gilchrist and Andy flower .

 

Indian WKs before him were feeble.

Dhoni would easily make India's all time ODI 11 as wicketkeeper batsman. Wont make in India's all time Test and nowhere near the T20i team though.

Poor in T20s. ATG in ODIs for first half of his career, liability in second half. Non-serious test cricketer. 

 

To have him bracketed with guys like Hayden, Smith, Amla makes a joke of this honour.

Bhai, Sanga was his contemporary. When keeping wickets his average is just 41 (over 50 tests, till 2008) but even that stomps all over MS' mediocrity. 

 

MS took Indian test cricket a few years back. Should not even be rated in that format.

What would have been Sanga's avg if he kept wk for 90 tests. Dhoni avg is 38 not some chump change for WK.Pant avg is 42  and Dhoni's avg was 42 after 43 tests.

 

Pant is greatest WK after Gilly.

He knew his value was only as WK so even when he could played as a batsman alone , he never did even for a test.

 

He was never a t20 batsman but he screwed Indian t20 team for over a decade costing Indian atleast one t20 world cup both with his idiotic captaincy and then batting.

Even as WK Batsman i Tests he was mediocre. Struggled in Aus and SA with bat and never used to take catches off fast bowlers unless it came straight to him

Dravid avg under 30 in SA and would have done same in Australia if not Warne and McGrath missing and very very flat pitches in 2003-04 not to mention his struggles in SL.

 

Dhoni’s struggles in Australia and SA for WK is quite normal.He is no Adam Gilchrist but he  still very very good wk batsman.

 

He was weaker against fast bowlers but he was 100 percent upgrade over any of his contemporary keepers like DK, Saha.

 

To call Dhoni as weak wk batsman is nonsense TBH.

I feel like people doesn't give him enough credit for his cool headed captaincy. The way his captaincy won India so many games is priceless. And the death over blows he gave to the bowlers, very few could do what he did in white ball cricket. If you ask me, he is probably one of the best captain - if not the best - to play this game.
