Fantastic innings from Sach yesterday. I did have my doubts about how he would be able to integrate into this new-look batting order. I though he'd have a hard time scoring in today's helter-skelter pace of ODIs. But Sach showed yesterday, like he has done so many times before, that brute power is not the only way to score runs. His deft touches and surgical style placement are unmatched. :sachin:

in ODIs. SRT loves to open and it would be a shame to separate the highly successful p'ship of Gambhir and Sehwag to accomodate SRT. Gambhir's career is now blossoming and making him shunt up and down the order will not be a good move. And surprisingly, Veeru is also starting to bat with 0.1% caution in ODIs which is resulting in him spending more time at the crease and making bigger 50+ scores. If SRT comes back, Veeru will go back to his carefree way of batting which can only mean, at best, a spate of 30s and 40s. Our batting lineup is now starting to take shape with a double cannon opening pair,Suresh Nitro at #3,Prince Yuvi at #4,Mahabali at #5,Sharma at #6 and then either of the Pathans at #7. Since I don't think SRT will want to bat in the middle order, I feel that it won't be worth disrupting Sehwag and GG in order to have him back. He won India a cup in OZ and batted supremely last year against all opposition. Now is the time to walk away.
I agree with the point about Separating Chemistry pair of Gauti & Shewag! Other than this SRT Should play as long as he can! Definitely he cant be written off like Dravid! His presence to the team is more than enough! Man! even now his shots are looking 16! Sachin

Think World Cup 2011 is in India. - Viru and Gambhir are a set opening duo in tests - work amazingly in tandem - Gautam admitted to this only yesterday. Their jugalbandi where Gauty drops the ball at his feet almost every single ball and allows Viru to blitzkreig the opposition is a sight to behold - Besides they are a left/right combo. Gambhir Viru Sachin Yuvi Raina Dhoni Yousuf Pathan Irfan Pathan Bhajji Zakky RP Singh/Ishant Arguably the most brutal batting lineup on the planet - Right upto # 10. Sachin with his unmatchable experience must be a floater - ideallly # 3 - # 5. We must not miss the chance to unleash our big hitters for a major part of India's innings - remember we are playing in the subcontinent for the World Cup - I don't think we are going to be collapsing on those pitches with our batting that we need Sachin to open. Sachin and Dhoni are 2 guys who should be in the middle overs consolidating - rotating strike. SAchin is very good at playing deft shots against slow bowlers rotating strike without taking undue risk. And then in the end we can unleash Yuvi and the 2 Pathan brothers.:winky: The idea is how what works best for the majority of the team and teams interest - not where Sachin is most comfortable.

like Pred said earlier, we NEED Tendulkar at the top to win against GOOD teams. Sure we can beat up on average team but we would be lost without him on a good surface with good bowlers around.

This current tem against sri lanka and CT is looking more like the teams that tendulkar had to carry all his life.
I agree. The way we played the last two games (and all the finals lately), its like the old days of the 90s. Tendulkar fires or India loses.:((

Compared to Raina, YKP etc., I think Veeru was a lot more consistent. Only Yuvi and MSD are consistent to some extent. The youngsters are not consistent for sure and it is again upto the seniors nowadays to score runs. Hope everybody returns to form soon and remains consistent forever like Sachin.

The op has a very good point indeed which is the correct way of going about. But people wont do that because of his past records . They are just being blinded by his records and they fail to see the true fact
N WAT IS THE TRUE FACT?

Just one question brother - Are you saying this because SRT is 36??? If yes then pls understand age is not a constraint for a player like SRT. At 36 he is still better than most of our younger players. Compaq cup final 138 is a proof of that... Hope this suggestion is taken in a positive manner... Pls do not follow a mindless brigade where people want to pull SRT down just because of his age... I agree about his age but pls see that his strike rate is not down compared to other players in the team and in the 2 years he has scored 7 100's and 7 90's... what more do you want??? H has changed the way he scores runs (more sedate now a days) but he is still as effective as ever...
