Any ideas why no place for Indrajith, I know he had a difficult - by his standards- last season. But still one of the best Ranji bats

For batters, it's not easy to get into South Zone and West Zone teams due to competition. I think South Zone also has quota system on top of that, so they need to pick at least 1 player from Goa, Puducherry, etc.

He would easily walk into other teams like East Zone. I wish they continued with the India A, B, C, D format by picking the best players available in the country, no matter which zone they are from.

Yes I don't know why they changed that format 

 

It also means that coach and management from a state who are managing their zone for this tournament won't have bias to their own state players 

 

I didn't know they had quota system, that isn't great really. Should choose best players.

Out of 16 players, 4 are from Kerala...which isn't even a strong team in South Zone. Could have easily replaced Nizar with Indrajith (Azharudden is a wk, so that gives him an edge).

Kerala was finalist in last Ranji Trophy.. yes they got lucky against JK but it was well deserved for them... & all those 4 picks from Kerala were standout..

 BCCI has assessed Rishabh Pant's situation in the England series. The cricket body has amended the playing conditions for the upcoming domestic season, allowing “serious injury replacements” for multi-day tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy.

The board has sent an official communication to all state associations, and the match officials and umpires have been briefed about it.

Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the opening round of the Duleep Trophy as he hasn’t fully recovered from an injury he suffered during his County Championship stint with Nottinghamshire.

The South Zone selectors have defied the BCCI and have excluded contracted stars from the Duleep Trophy squad, fuelling the fire that was ignited when the board asked all the zones to keep contracted cricketers in their squad for the Duleep Trophy. 

 

KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Sai Sudharsan and Prasidh Krishna, who are already missing from the team, might not be included for Duleep Trophy. 

 

According to the report, sources from the South Zone have made it clear that, for now, they are sticking with the team announced on July 26. Tilak Varma, the skipper, is the only contracted cricketer in the team. 

 

South Zone officials maintain that national selectors should not be involved in choosing zonal teams and suggest that, if needed, the BCCI should mandate Ranji Trophy participation for contracted cricketers instead.

 

The selectors argue that top Indian players can be accommodated in India A games instead.

Why would he turn it down ?! 

 

I would have him leading the A team Vs Aus A in the four day matches
